I am having problems removing some spyware/malware from my system. specifically a program called aurora which keeps launching on my machine, and some ie popup web pages, which i think are related.
I have gone through the steps outlined in "before you post" and am creating a hijack this log now. I just wanted to check first if McAffe online virus scan was a good enough online scan, or if i should also run one of your recommended online scans as well. thank you, i will be posting the log as soon as it is ready. |

kimikat730,
Welcome to the GTG Forums, I will be reviewing your HJT log. We have a few infections to clean up, so this will take a few steps. Please read these instructions before proceeding: You may want to print these instructions for a reference: Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet. Please download Nailfix from here: Nailfix.zip Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet. Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
SafeMode Help Once in SafeMode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan. Now scan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following items: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q= F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe O2 - BHO: Band Class - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan by using Add Reply Thanks, rstones12 |

kimikat730,
Things are looking much better. I want to make sure that there are no lingering files hanging around, please do the following: Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph...=post&id=142443 1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop. 2. Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It may take awhile so please be patient ... 3. Then post the results here along with a new HJT log by using Add Reply Thanks, rstones12 |

kimikat730,
OK, things are looking better, we still have a few things to do: Please read through these instructions before proceeding. You will want to print these instructions out since you will be in SafeMode and not have access to the Internet. First download Killbox from HERE And save it to your desktop. Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option. Once in SafeMode please run Killbox Select "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time into the "Full Path of File to Delete" box. C:\WINDOWS\ICONT.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\LRNXP.ICO C:\WINDOWS\mt-uninstaller.ico Click the red circle with the white X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion, say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click NO when it asks you to reboot. If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again. Now reboot your system and post back a new Findit log and a HJT log by using Add Reply Thanks, rstones12 |

kimikat730,
Your log looks good.... Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications: Detect and Remove Programs:
Windows security and critical updates. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp Internet Explorer security and critical updates. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp And also see TonyKlein's good advice So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it. Thanks, rstones12 "its only rock'n'roll but I like it" |
