Hoping you all can ;) I am trying to help an older family member with his computer. I found out that he has this malicious Aurora on his computer and his McAfee spyware program is NOT finding and/or removing it. I am going over there again today in about 3 hours and am afraid I haven't the slightest idea where to start in trying to get this off his machine. He is older and extremely computer illiterate, so I am all he has. If you could help it would be great, and make me look golden to him :tazz: No...I actually do give credit to any help I get. I only wish I could be informed enough to do what you all do!

Hi and welcome to GTG.

This infection is spreading like wildfire these days. Did you read the sticky yet? If not, see the link below in my signature and do the steps mentioned there before posting a HijackThis log. Don't post the HijackThis log yet. Do this:

Download ewido security suite from here http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Update it’s database from here.. http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/
Run a scan and let it clean the PC. Post a new hijackthis log when complete.

**Note** DO NOT REBOOT THE PC During the removal process. If you do the filenames will change.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It will take awhile so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here please, along with the new HijackThis log.

You may uninstall Ewido Security Suite now.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\IMHYTQJ.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\NAIL.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SVCPROC.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\TSC.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\__DELE~1.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\ASSEST.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\FRENNK.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\VSAPI32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\aqpehxlc.exe
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for System Startup Service (SvcProc) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK. Then type in each of the following (hit Enter key after each line):

cd windows
nail.exe /FullRemove
exit

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete aurora

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete Bolger

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete BolgerDll.BolgerDllObj

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O2 - BHO: BolgerObj Class - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fpghduviye] C:\WINDOWS\system32\aqpehxlc.exe
O9 - Extra button: Ebates - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Yes, that's good. I put if since they may not always be there especially if a user has run other programs to fix things up.

You may uninstall Ewido if you wish since we don't need it anymore.

OK, give me a new FindIt's log.

Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK. Then type in the following (hit Enter after each line):

cd windows
nail.exe /FullRemove
exit

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\NAIL.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\ASSEST.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\FRENNK.DLL
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete aurora

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete Bolger

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - (no file)

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

OK had some issues with this. My notes in red to follow more easily, hopefully

Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK.  Then type in the following (hit Enter after each line):

cd windows
nail.exe /FullRemove
exit

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\NAIL.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\ASSEST.DLL There was no such file
C:\WINDOWS\FRENNK.DLL Got an error message that read: Cannot delete frennk: Access is denied
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\
There was no such file

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK.  Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup.  While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete aurora

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete Bolger

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll
There was no such file

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions.  Then click on the Advanced button.  Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked.  Click OK and OK.  Then try deleting the entry again.  Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Run a scan in HijackThis.  Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - (no file)There was no such file

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan.  Save the log file and post it here.

No problem, let's take a another shot at this:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Don't run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK. Then type in each of the following (hit Enter key after each line):

cd windows
nail.exe /FullRemove
exit

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete aurora

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete Bolger

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete BolgerDll.BolgerDllObj

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\ and delete {BB0D5ADC-028D-4185-9288-722DDCE2C757}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\ and delete {92DAF5C1-2135-4E0C-B7A0-259ABFCD3904}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.
Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: BolgerObj Class - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [csbwgib] c:\windows\system32\hnlixo.exe

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\HNLIXO.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\ASSEST.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\FRENNK.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll
c:\windows\svcproc.exe
c:\windows\Nail.exe
c:\windows\system32\DrPMon.dll

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. Post a new FindIt log also.

Brace yourself.....Had some more problems, but did the best I could again....

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete Bolger This file didn't exist

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete BolgerDll.BolgerDllObj

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\ and delete {BB0D5ADC-028D-4185-9288-722DDCE2C757}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\ and delete {92DAF5C1-2135-4E0C-B7A0-259ABFCD3904}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll
This file didn't exist

This file didn't exist

Upon restarting there was a error message that it couldn't find c:/windows/Nail.exe I hope that was a good sign. Here is my HJT file...

nongeek555, please try not to post your replies to another user's topic since you are not a staff here. If you want to help, you may join us (read the sticky topic).

Yes, we are aware of the removal tool, but that company itself is bad as you know. There has been discussions on using the tool and some say it should be avoided.

I guess we will give it a shot since we are having problems removing it.

ShoalBear, just to confirm, you didn't restart by any chance did you? I don't see why the files are not found since only a restart should have caused this problem. We need to kill all the files associated with this infection, otherwise it just comes back.

So did you or did you not restart during the time you posted the log files and the time when I replied? If you did not restart, then use the uninstaller by MyPCTuneup. After running that uninstaller, restart and post back a new HijackThis and FindIt log.

But if you did restart, I suggest that you give me a new set of HijackThis and FindIt log, but do NOT restart until you get a reply with the fixes. You should be able to see the same files listed if you did not restart.
