Hi

My computer today started playing up, I get blue screens when trying to browse the internet or it shuts down the internet browser.
It doesnt even show the page, just blank.
I'm posting this from Safe Mode.

I was also getting an error on startup

"LaunchApplication.exe Bad Image
The application or dll C:\\Windows\System32\msxml14.dll is not valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

Windows Update yellow shield with exclamation mark logo in the task is on and if I try to install the updates the computer crashes and restarts, or if I turn the laptop off for updates to install its stuck and crashes.

Mozilla Firefox seems to work fine with net browsing

Spybot found Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_Disabled
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc\Start!=W=2

I click Fix selected problem but its always there whenever I do a Spybot scan.

here's my HJT log

Hi C110GTR and welcome to 'geeks to go' smile.gif
My name is Colin & I will be helping you to resolve this problem.
Sorry for the delay & thanks for being patient, everyone is really busy at the moment, but we've finally got round to you.

Please follow all of the steps below in the order they are listed.
If you do not understand any step or get stuck please ask before proceeding.

You may want to print out these & any subsequent instructions before you start so you can refer to them at any time.

If you look at your HijackThislog you will see that there are no 02 or 020 entries.
This is a strong indication that you have a Vundo infection.

I need you to rename your HijackThis folder.
Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore") navigate to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe & rename to C:\Program Files\AnalyseThat\AnalyseThat.exe.

Next reopen AnalyseThat & scan. Do NOT fix any entries yet.

Please save the log & post it into your next reply.

Thanks,
Col

Hi C110GTR, welcome back.

There are no signs of malware in your AnalyseThat log, however by posting
QUOTE
I also have an unknown folder in my C drive QooBox with Subfolders Purity > Windows > system32 > CROSOF~1 > YSTEM~32 > system
has given us something to go on. Thanks for that.

Step 1
Please download Combofix
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When it has finished, it will produce a log. Please post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Step 2
It is VERY unusual for a log to have no O2's or 020's.
You say that you are not getting ant popups now, but perhaps something may be hiding in there.
I think it would be a good idea to run the Vundofix tool just to see.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button if the infection was found. (If Vundo was not found a dialogue box will inform you & you can exit the program.)
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis (AnalyseThat) log together with the Combofix log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Hi C110GTR,
I've been doing some research on the net & in some of our resolved threads:
From Armodeluxe
QUOTE
Qoobox is created by combofix, which at the same time is a removal tool for certain infections. It puts the backups in that folder.
Also, nwwia is nothing to worry about - see the replies to This thread

Step 1
I've looked through your Combofix log one file looks suspicious.
Jotti File Submission:
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\jlreqa^b.sys
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.

Step 2
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Step 3
Right, lets do some more digging:
First download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
  3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  4. Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  6. Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  1. Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  2. Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  3. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  4. AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  5. If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  6. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  7. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  8. Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.

To post in your next reply:
1) Results from Jotti File Submission.
2) Results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.
3) A new HijackThis log.
