Hi there SteveTep,
Sorry for the delay. Please follow my instructions in the order they were given, if you come across something you don't understand or don't feel comfortable doing, don't hesitate to ask and I will get you sorted out If you cannot complete a step in my instructions, please skip it and continue with the rest of my instructions and tell me in your next reply which one you were having trouble with. Very Important! You have a backdoor trojan installed on your computer. Backdoor Trojans, IRCBots and Infostealers are very dangerous because they provide a means of accessing a computer system that bypasses security mechanisms and steal sensitive information like passwords, personal and financial data which they send back to the hacker. Remote attackers use backdoor Trojans as part of an exploit to to gain unauthorized access to a computer and take control of it without your knowledge. If your computer was used for online banking, has credit card information or other sensitive data on it, you should immediately disconnect from the Internet until your system is cleaned. All passwords should be changed immediately to include those used for banking, email, eBay and forums. You should consider them to be compromised. They should be changed by using a different computer and not the infected one. If not, an attacker may get the new passwords and transaction information. Banking and credit card institutions should be notified of the possible security breach. Step 1. Combofix Please go here to install the recovery console and for a guide on using combofix. Please note: Installing the Recovery Console plays a vital part in making this process of cleaning your computer safe, please don't overlook this! Now please download combofix from here or here. It is important that you save this file to your desktop. Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a Hijack This log in your next reply. A quick heads up, if you click on combofix's window when it's running, you may cause it to stall. This post has been edited by Mike: Jun 11 2008, 09:43 AM |

Hi there your logs look better, but you still have some infections.
If you want, go ahead with running ComboFix and I will get rid of what I can see Cheers, Mike |

Hi there,
Just wanted to let you know that I will have a look at your log tomorrow as I cannot get to it today. You do still have quite a few infections going but please try not to run any tools other than what I ask for the moment. Thanks, Mike |

Welcome back!
No worries about the delay, thankfully we handled most of it before so it didn't make anything worse Your logs look good, what kaspersky found are all in quarentines which we will get rid of soon. Question, did you install the following programs? Selectsoft BigFix Myst Risk They were all created at the same time, if you didn't install them you can go ahead and uninstall them through add or remove programs and delete the following folders. C:\Program Files\Selectsoft C:\Program Files\BigFix C:\Program Files\Risk C:\Program Files\Myst Since it has been a while could you please post a new Hijack This log. |

Hi there SteveTep,
Just a heads up for the future, don't post your logs in multiple help forums. I found a log of yours over at SWI and you left the helper there hanging, I have notified her so that she doesn't have to monitor that thread anymore. Re-run ATF Cleaner for me please. Please open HijackThis again and choose "Do a system scan only". Please put a check next to each of the following entries (if still present): R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,First Home Page = file://c:/windows/homepage.html O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [SymLnch] "C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER~1.MDK\APPLIC~1\Symantec\Layouts\NORTON~1\1500~1.60\SYMALL~1\NIS_RE~1\90100\Support\SymLnch\SymLnch.exe" "C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER~1.MDK\APPLIC~1\Symantec\Layouts\NORTON~1\1500~1.60\SYMALL~1\NIS_RE~1\90100\Setup.exe" "/SCANUPREBOOT /REALUPREBOOT /temp /patched" O4 - Startup: SCRABBLE Complete Registration.lnk = C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.MDKCOMPUTER\Local Settings\Temp\{80DBBB39-40A6-470A-A26A-6DA62DF39441}\{B36649A3-D0DD-4706-B042-F5B384529C7A}\ATR1.exe O23 - Service: Kodak Camera Connection Software (KodakCCS) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\KodakCCS.exe (file missing) Now please close all open windows except HJT and press "Fix checked". Now empty out this folder ---> C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.MDKCOMPUTER\Local Settings\Temp And delete this file if present ---> c:\WINDOWS\homepage.html Do a full scan with your Anti-Virus to be sure. From here your logs look clean Step 1. Removing ComboFix Click START then RUN Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK ![]() Notice the space between the x and / -- That needs to be there. Now please download OTCleanIt.
This will remove the tools we used during the process of cleaning your computer. Step 2. Configuring Automatic Updates Click the Automatic Updates tab. Choose the update option that best suits your needs, but be sure that Automatic Updates is not turned off. Windows XP will now notify you and download important updates and security patches as they become available. Click "OK" to save your new settings and close the System Properties dialogue. Step 3. Preventing future infection Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs: SpywareBlaster A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here. IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle. Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date. There are many programs that can be used for your protection, most falling within the three main categories of anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall. Please be careful to never run more than one program of the same category in resident mode, as conflicts between the different programs can actually decrease your protection. Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. Please post back and tell me if everything is OK, so that I may mark this thread as Resolved. |
