CCleaner

Hi. Well, the best thing to do is cut down on unnecessary applications, such as the Quicktime Task Launcher, AIM, etc. Things that you usually launch on your own time, and don't need to start each time you boot. Do you have such programs loading?

Sorry I dont quite know how your reply fits in with my query about how to use CCleaner - I want to make sure I 'clean' the right things and dont cause problems with any other programs

Ah, I was under the impression that you were using the Startup Utility within CCleaner. As far as cleaning old files, I suggest disabling the "Empty Recycle Bin" option, as this might get you into a pickle later on accident.

Do you have anything disabled by default?

I have the following disabled...

* System
- Empty Recycle Bin
- Memory Dumps
- chkdsk file fragments
- Windows Log Files

*Advanced
- Menu order cache
- Tray notifications cache
- Window Size/Location cache
- User Assist History
- IIS Log Files
- Hotfix uninstallers
- Custom Files and Folders

Everything else is enabled, and my system runs very well! It could stand to dump off a few programs running at startup, but I'm slowly working on that

For fixing the registry, I have all of the settings turned on.

Thanks for your reply I have these disabled (Almost all by default)
In Internet Explorer
Auto complete form history
In System
Empty recycle bin (for the same reason as you !)
In Advanced
Everything ( I dont know what most are for !)

In Applications Mozilla Firefox
Saved form information
In Utilities
AVG Anti spyware ( I see this to be set as disabled in the malware forums - but I'm not sure if that is only to be set during malware removal )

Any thoughts on my list ? - its mostly the applications list (AVG) I'd like advice on.

I'm working on my startup programs too and clearing 'prefetch' to speed things up a boot - see my thread about that HERE
