CD Burner not working

Hey guys I'm having a problem with my CD Bruner. This is what Windows media Says:
C00D11AB: Cannot burn files to CD
Windows Media Player cannot burn (copy) the selected files to the CD. To fix the problem, do one or more of the following:

* Clean the disc and verify that it is not damaged.
* Select a slower recording (write) speed for the CD burner (recorder).
* Try a different brand of blank discs.
* Quit other programs.

To select a slower recording speed

1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Devices tab.
2. In Devices, double-click the name of the CD burner (recorder), and then click the Recording tab.
3. In the write-speed list, select a slower speed.

I have tried all of the solutions that it says. I'm thinking the burner is damaged. I have tried other programs for burning also, and other disks, and none have worked. I'm not even sure if this is the right forum. Could you help me out?

If there's a way to fix it without opening up my computer, that would be awesome, but i'm willing to take it to a shop (I have a friend who owns one) if i really need help.

I have also tried Sonic RecordNow and Itunes to Burn a CD.
It reads CDs fine, and also rips no problem, and it used to burn fine also, i don't know if i may have accidently changed something or what.

Does RecordNow give you an actual error message when you try to burn a CD with it? If so, what is the error message?

OK. Can you go to the link below please, download Alcohol 120% Free Trial & install it :
http://www.alcohol-software.com/

When installed, insert a blank CD into the CDRW & try to burn something to it. If it doesn't work, click once on the CDRW drive in the lower pane, to select it, then click on the device menu -> properties.

Click on the 'Disc' button & let me know what it reports for the following:
Disc Type
Recordable
Session
Track
Free Space(MB)

Next click on the Advanced button, and let me know what it reports for :
Media Manufacturer
Media Type

Next, click on System Info button. Copy & paste just the 'Device List' & the CDRW 'device info' sections into your next post.

Thanks for the info.

Have you tried running a write simulation instead? If so, does that fail as well? And what stage in the process does it fail?

What sort of image file were you trying to burn? i.e ISO, NRG etc

yeah, alcohol only burns image files I'm afraid, I forgot to mention that!

To perform a write simulation, use the Image Burning Wizard, select iso file, then on the last page of the wizard, untick the 'Write' checkbox & tick the 'Simulation' checkbox instead.

OK. Can you try this & see if it makes any difference :

Go to device manager (start->Run->devmgmt.msc) & expand the IDE/ATAPI Controllers branch. Double click on the Secondary IDE Controller to open properties. In the Advanced section, change the Transfer Mode for both devices. i.e if it currently says PIO, change it to DMA. If it says DMA, change it to PIO. Reboot the system & try burning something again

If that doesn't appear to help at all, then change the settings back again. Also can you try running the write simulation in RecordNow? If this also works, try it again but using a larger amount of data. I noticed the ISO image you ran the simulation with last time was very small.

I'm working on that right now, i'll let you know how it goes.

I don't think i am able to run a simulation on record now. I searched the program through help, and no simulation came up.

Well, it didn't work either way. After the first change, from DMA to IPO, Sonic just said it didn't work. Then after the change back to DMA, Sonic said the burn worked. But, i re-inserted to same disc and it was blank. so it didn't work.
