It's got to be one of the strangest things i've come across recently but I suppose it makes the world of PC gaming that bit more interesting.

i had the direct x 9 error.. after re=installing windows . but prior to that.. i never had any problems with the game at all... it was really weird.. i tried everything from updating drivers.. installing the game a couple of times.. updating mother board.. almost anything u can imagine...and i almost gave up and was about to go buy a new pc at the store.. until i found this thread.. i was like mmm. it won't work.. but it did. i was totally shocked.. i can't believe x-fire doesn't let u change sound or video settings when u are logged on.. . does anybody have an answer to this.. this is so weird.. but i'm happy it worked .. it save me 3000 dollars on a new machine..lol... :-)

Anyone have any more advice on this topic? I set the game to the optimum settings and got ahead a little more but it has happened again now and its still set to the same settings. I'm getting really frustrated with this game. There doesn't seem to be any reason for this error.

i don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but my problem with playing COD2 was that I had two monitors running off my video card and my onboard video. Make sure you have the onboard display disabled before playing the game.

Hey, I have this problem too. I have an Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. I saw on an earlier comment that this card doesn't support CoD2. My computer is also a laptop, so I don't think the card is able to be replaced. Is there something I could download to make it compatible with CoD2(and while I'm at it, CoD4 maybe)? I'm running on Windows Vista but try to run the game in compatibility mode for XP service pack 2. Please help!!!
