My problem is that whenever I play video files I don't get any video but the sound plays.

This starts happening after I play a fullscreen game and to fix it I have to restart my computer.

Is there any other way of fixing this besides restarting my computer?

I'll edit this to post computer specs later.

Lets determine if it's a user specific problem or a system wide problem. Next time, instead of restarting the computer, log off and log on, see if that makes a difference.
