I have a new laptop and I bought an adapter to plug my old laptop HD into my new laptop using a USB cable. My new laptop recognizes it perfectly and I can get into it, but it will not allow me to access ANY files in the "My Documents" folder of my admin user account.

I'm hoping there is a way to "unlock" the folder so I can get my files out of it. Does anybody know?

Yeah, it says it is "not accessible" and "Access denied."

It is all the files I had under my OLD user account on my OLD hard drive, so I'm sure it's protected in some way. But surely there has to be a way around it. I need some of those files.

If I try to copy the folder over, it says: "Make sure the disk is not write-protected."

I CAN access any files that are not part of the Windows folders, but not My Documents. sad.gif

right this is because even if your user is named the same the UID is different. there are some utilities that would work... check out www.ubcd4win.com

it will give you the instructions to compile a bootable version of windows that would let you get in there and burn those files on cd
