Hello bluefalcon,

Firstly: Please disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.

Now

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)

Close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Close HiJackThis.

Step 2

Your Java is out of date, older versions are vunerable to attack.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
Next

You may have used Malwarebytes before. If you have and still have it on your machine please update and run. Post the scan report back here.

If you do not have Malwarebytes please download from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Finally in this post
  • Please download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here.
  • It is important that is saved to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
So when you return please post
  • MBAM log
  • the two RSIT logs - log.txt and info.txt

Note: Unless otherwise instructed always post the logs in the forum. It is likely these reports will not fit on one post. It might be necessary to break the logs up to get them on the forum. Just use as many posts as you need, that's fine. :)

Yes, it's the same computer.

So if everything looks ok can I go ahead and delete the programs I downloaded (JavaRa, MBAM etc)?.

Well you need to tell Broni that you are also checking out malware in the malware forum.

Normally you would come here before going there. It is dangerous to be doing two things at once.

We want to run a couple more scans before I can say for sure that your machine is clean.

But, I will stop now because I don't want to compromise anything happening in the other forum.

Once you have told Broni that you are here and will finish here before going any further there, then we can proceed.

Come back and tell me when this has been done.

Hi emeraldnzl,

I have left a message in my other thread telling Broni that I will be finishing with this topic before I go any further with my other issue. I was'nt aware that getting advice for 2 problems at once could potentially cause harm. I apologise.

No worries.

I don't anticipate a malware problem but we must make sure your machine is clean before we send you back to the tech forum. :)

Lets accelerate things. Just two scans. One to check there are no rootkits and a last general scan for viruses etc.

Now

Download GMER from here:

http://www.gmer.net/files.php

Unzip it to the desktop.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries unless advised by a trained Security Analyst.

Open the program and click on the Rootkit tab.
Make sure all the boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for ‘Show All’.
Click on Scan.
When the scan has run click Copy and paste the results (if any) into this thread.

Next

Kaspersky on line scanner is very thorough. It can take a long time and for periods may seem not to be working. Just be patient and let it do its job.

Kaspersky works with Internet Explorer and Firefox 3.

Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: you will need to turn off your security programs to allow Kaspersky to do its job.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

So when you return please post
  • GMER rootkit revealer report
  • Kaspersky scan results

I'm not sure if it's related to anything but I am now constantly getting a "This site my harm your computer" message under everything in google search (in both IE and Firefox). I can't visit any sites as i'm just taken to a page that says:

Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!

Suggestions:

* Return to the previous page and pick another result.
* Try another search to find what you're looking for.

Or you can continue to "insert site address" at your own risk. For detailed information about the problems we found, visit Google's Safe Browsing diagnostic page for this site.

For more information about how to protect yourself from harmful software online, you can visit StopBadware.org.

If you are the owner of this web site, you can request a review of your site using Google's Webmaster Tools. More information about the review process is available in Google's Webmaster Help Center.
Advisory provided by Google

It was fine 2 hours ago :)

Update: After restarting the computer I am no longer seeing this. :)

I'm not sure if it's related to anything but I am now constantly getting a "This site my harm your computer" message under everything in google search (in both IE and Firefox). I can't visit any sites as i'm just taken to a page that says:

Go to the link below to learn what StopBadware.org is. In particular you will see this line

On January 31, 2009, all of Google's results (including google.com and stopbadware.org) were briefly flagged as malware for almost 40 minutes.

I think this is what happen to you. Also why it has stopped.

http://en.wikipedia....StopBadware.org

Now

Go to Start > Right Click > Explore and navigate to and delete C:\Program Files\Sony\Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b\Plugins\NewBlue FX\Motion blends.exe

After you have done that I think your machine will be clean. Once you have completed the clean up outlined below you can return to Broni in the tech forum.

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.Posted Image

Please go here to download OTCleanIt.

Run this program to remove the tools we have been using.

You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process choose Yes.

MBAM can be uninstalled via control panel add/remove but it may be a useful tool to keep.

Next, we need to clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A reminder now: Remember to turn back on any anti-malware programs you may have turned off during the cleaning process.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you are clean here are some things I think are worth having a look at:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then. This helps with security and your computer will run more efficiently. I clean mine once a week. For ease of use, you might consider the following free program:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A great way to check that your Microsoft and Java have the latest updates is to go to Software Inspector at Secunia.

I do this weekly. Not only do they tell you which programs need updating but they give you the link to follow.

To bolster your security go to Secunia.com to ensure essential programs are up to date.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make Internet Explorer more secure
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is excellant; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up blocker (Note: this as an added benefit!) that I have seen. Firefox is my default browser but I retain Internet Explorer as well so that I can access the very few sites that require it.

Firefox may be downloaded from Here

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Startuplite is a tool to help you stop some programs not needed when you start your computer from loading. They will begin automatically only when needed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To help protect your computer in the future here are some free programs you can look at:

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klein: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!

Thank you for you help.

I do have one more quick question though.

Since doing the Windows update, I noticed I now have 3 folders on my 2nd hard drive that were'nt there before.

Folder 1 - 4c9fb0c7ee99abf86881f4e4ac
Folder 2 - 039358fff980f8c66739a3fa
Folder 3 - 65c58fade2e04c454dc9f5a0e839 < This is the one giving me trouble.

2 of these folders I can move/delete etc but no matter what I try and do with the other folder it won't let me. I keep getting the following error:

If I try and move it I get:

Cannot copy eula: Access is denied
Make sure the disc is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use

If I try and delete it I get:

Cannot copy/delete eula.rtf: Access is denied
Make sure the disc is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use

Hi bluefalcon,

If that was from a Windows update why are you deleting it?
