Can't Attach MP3's or .exe's, Gmail won't let me send attached mp3/exe files

My brother recently started university, and he asked me to buy a CD for him, so I ripped it, and was trying to email the songs to him, but Gmail wouldn't get past saying that it was sending the file, and my brother would receive nothing. I was also trying to send him the install (.exe) file for a freeware program he said he wanted, but it wouldn't let me. What can I do to send these? Using other email clients is an option, but not doing that would be better.

His ISP at the university may prohibit the transmission of MP3s (eats bandwidth) and .exe files (to prevent malware on their network). Have your brother check with the IT dept. to see if there are restrictions in place, and how they recommend he proceed.

If he can at least access the Internet, upload your file to SendSpace.com. He will receive an email with a link where he can DL the file. Hope you kept copy rights in mind.
