My kids computer is having some real issues, started with running very slowly then became IE would not open (it immediately closes), and now neither of the kids profiles will load, it starts to load then goes back to the XP login screen.

I was going to go through the steps in the "before you post" thread but I cannot get Firefox to download anything, starting with ATF. A security window pops up and says "this download has been blocked by your Security Zone Policy."

CA Anti-Spyware found "routekit" and supposedly quarantined it, but I am suspecting there is more. What can I do to get the cleanup ball rolling on this pc?

Thank you for your help!

The pc runs XP Pro, and my login still works so I can get in to clean up.

Hi there lets try a different programme to see if that works. I would like you to download and run these in order. If the first one works then post just that. If it fails then proceed to the second download. Both of these can be run in safe mode if necessary

FIRST PROGRAMME

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

BACKUP PROGRAMME

Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
  • Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • Reg - BotCheck
    • Reg - Desktop Components
    • Reg - Disabled MS Config Items
    • File - Additional Folder Scans
    • File - Purity Scan
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, I cannot download anything on this machine. Anything and everything that downloads tells me it's not a valid Win32. I tried to d/l DSS on another machine and networked it over and it's error says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the items." Of course, my account is admin.

I ran CA anti-spyware and the result is the Routekit trojan (http://ca.com/us/sec...px?id=453133883). I searched google for this trojan and saw results for a "rootkit" but CA anti-spyware is definately spelling this as "routekit." I had CA quarantine the item but as I suspected, upon restarting it is back. Is there an online scan option maybe?

Lets try F-Secure and see if that works. Mostly though this sort of thing needs me to run an analysis programme to find the cause and then an installed programme to remove it

Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
  • Follow the Instruction Here for installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Hi there this is similar to one I fixed the other day, it seems to be becoming prevalent now. At least I have had some practice at it :)

OK this will be a busy post so I recommend that you copy this to a text file for reference

TO BEGIN

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O23 - Service: afinding Service (afinding) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\AFinding.exe
O23 - Service: macidwe Service (macidwe) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\macidwe.exe
O23 - Service: nobicyt Service (nobicyt) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Nobicyt.exe
O23 - Service: perfs Service (perfs) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfs.exe
O23 - Service: routing Service (routing) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\routing.exe
O23 - Service: sobicyt Service (sobicyt) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sobicyt.exe
O23 - Service: tdxdowkc Service (tdxdowkc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdxdowkc.exe
O23 - Service: wserving Service (wserving) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\WServing.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

NEXT

@echo off
sc stop afinding Service
sc delete afinding Service
sc stop macidwe Service
sc delete macidwe Service
sc stop nobicyt Service
sc delete nobicyt Service
sc stop perfs Service
sc delete perfs Service
sc stop routing Service
sc delete routing Service
sc stop sobicyt Service
sc delete sobicyt Service
sc stop tdxdowkc Service
sc delete tdxdowkc Service
sc stop wserving Service
sc delete wserving Service
exit

Next you will need to create the batch fix to do that copy and paste ALL of the above in the quote box to a notepad file.
Then in the text file go to FILE > SAVE AS and in the dropdown box select SAVE AS TYPE to ALL FILES
Then in the FILE NAME box type fix.bat

This will create a batch file Posted Image

Then run fix.bat by double clicking you may see a black box appear this is normal

THEN

1. Please download The Avenger2 by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Right click on the Avenger.zip folder and select "Extract All..."
  • Follow the prompts and extract the avenger folder to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Begin copying here:

Drivers to delete:
afinding
macidwe
nobicyt
perfs
routing
sobicyt
tdxdowkc
wserving

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\AFinding.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\macidwe.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Nobicyt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\routing.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sobicyt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdxdowkc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WServing.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dbi102.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmchost.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, open the avenger folder and start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon.
  • Right click on the window under Input script here:, and select Paste.
  • You can also Paste the text copied to the clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V), or click on the third button under the menu to paste it from the clipboard.
  • Click on Execute
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Delete" or "Drivers to Disable", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh Hijackthis log .

Ok, while I was running Anti-Malware, CA popped up with 2 infected items, both are "Win32/Gamepass.BY"

Did it give a file name or location ? As it may have been caused by MBAM cleaning routine

How is your computer now ?

Ok, I ran anti-malare, AV and anti-spyware again and we appear to be good. Thank you for everything! Anything else I need to check?

Just one more thing to do

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :)

Download this small programme OTCleanit and run, hit the cleanup button and it will remove all tools including itself

Now to get you off to a good start we will re-set your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your your restore point but this is my method:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
2. On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
3. Click NEXT
4. Enter a name e.g. Clean
5. Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
3. Click OK
4. The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
5. Select the More Options Tab.
6. At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
7. Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free program: It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit
