Cannot get the wi-fi to work!, I've reformatted a laptop with generic windows XP software and can

hi there, I am helping a friend whose laptop was loaded with nasty bugs(cool-web search amongst them). So she decided that she just wants to reformat the whole computer(was our very last resort) and start fresh.

The problem is, she has an HP Pavilion zv6000 and it did NOT came with a restoration CD. So we bought one off ebay, a generic one of the Windows XP(32bit).

The problem is once we've restored the laptop, everything worked great except for her built-in wireless. It won't come on!

We've then realized that the driver is probably NOT downloaded because of the generic version. The problem now lies in--- how do we get her wireless internet back???

There is a built in button for wireless on her lap top. And it won't come on. And when we try to do the wizard through control panel, there was NOT an option to turn it back on. I cannot find the driver for it.

please help! She needs this for her college.

Yes, the Windows XP install CD only includes generic drivers for all your hardware. I recomend going to the HP site and getting all the drivers for your laptop.

If your laptop model is zv6000 then you can get them here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=453185&lang=en&os=228

If you have a few letters after the zv6000, then go to this page and pick your exact model. Then click on Software & Drivers download, and then on Microsoft Windows XP. Download all the drivers and software and install them on your laptop. You don't want download drivers for things you don't have, so make sure you only get what you need. Also, make sure you update the computer through Windows Update to make sure you are fully updated and have all the latest security patches.
