I am looking for a solid gaming machine for under $1,000. I do not want SLI or Crossfire. I am more than happy to spend more next summer or fall to upgrade. The game I am building for is Warhammer, but I will probably play some more demanding games as well. I welcome any and all advice! All parts numbers etc are from Newegg. 1 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Model #:ST3500320AS Item #:N82E16822148288 $79.99 1 GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Model #:GA-EP45-DS3L Item #:N82E16813128345 $99.99 2 ARCTIC COOLING ACF9PWM 92mm Case Fan - Retail Model #:ACF9PWM Item #:N82E16835186023 $17.98 2 Scythe S-FLEX SFF21D 120mm Case Fan - Retail Model #:S-FLEX SFF21D Item #:N82E16835185004 $29.99 -$17.00 Instant $25.98 1 ZALMAN 9500A 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler - Retail Model #:9500A Item #:N82E16835118223 $63.99 -$10.00 Instant $53.99 1 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK - Retail Model #:F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK Item #:N82E16820231166 $144.99 -$40.00 Instant $104.99 1 CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail Model #:CMPSU-550VX Item #:N82E16817139004 Return Policy:Standard Return Policy $104.99 -$15.00 Instant $89.99 1 Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST3250310NS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Model #:ST3250310NS Item #:N82E16822148309 $79.99 $79.99 1 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Yorkfield 2.5GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80580Q9300 - Retail Model #:BX80580Q9300 Item #:N82E16819115043 $259.99 $259.99 1 BFG Tech BFGE98512GTE GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail Model #:BFGE98512GTE Item #:N82E16814143151 Return Policy:Standard Return Policy $169.99 Subtotal: $982.88 Can someone recommend a good case for this build? If you take advantage of the Mail-in-Rebate, this video card would be a better buy -> BFG 8800GTS 512MB
How much would you have left for the case? It doesn't seem like there's enough money even if you remove some fans. If you remove the 250GB hard drive then you will have enough for a decent case and just partition your hard drive (if you want to have the OS separated from your personal data files). If you remove the 250GB and just partition your main hard drive, I suggest you change it to this Western Digital 640GB, it costs $84.99 so you get more space. Here's a few I recommend. Antec 300 - $59.95 Antec 900 - $99.99 Antec P182 - $109.99 Coolermaster Centurion 5 - $49.99 (window version comes to $59.99) Coolermaster CM690 - $84.99 Coolermaster Centurion 590 - $64.99 There are more great computer cases out there and I think this is more a personal preference, just make sure its big enough for all your components.
