Hi I just moved to my college and I had a few questions regarding the whole setup.

1. On the first day I did a speed test of my LAN connection and got 36,000 kb/s down and 8,000 kbs up. Now today I am getting 950 kb/s down and 1,400 up. What can cause this and is there anyway to get back to the original speed?

2. I am able to connect to two connections, one WAN and one LAN, is there anyway I can have one dedicated to downloading and one to surfing?

Any help would be great, I might have a few more question coming.

1) The college may have internet shared amongst everybody else therefore your speeds are lower if other students are using it.
2) Windows will use one or the other, whichever one is fastest overall. In most cases Windows will use the LAN port over any other connection.

Your best bet is to contact the college's IT department.
Even a super-duper connection can be brought to a crawl when lots of people are using it.
