Does it give you any kind of error message before it shuts down? Also, does it only happen on line? (I was guessing since you are trying to play WOW)

If you catch it sometimes a blue screen will flash, but only for a hot second, and then it restarts. It doesnt really shut down it just restarts. It doesnt happen when i just normally browse the internet like regular websites. Only when Im playing world of warcraft. Its funny cause I know its an error because when the computer boots back up it says your system has recovered from a serious error but doesnt specify. And I caught a glimpse of the blue screen right before it restarted but couldnt make out what it said.
So again its only when i play world of warcraft which is totally odd. |

To be able to see the BSOD you need to turn off automatically restart on system failure option.
Right click my computer > click properties > click advanced > under startup and recovery click settings > untick automatically restart and click ok. Now you should be able to see the BSOD, write down and extract message and post it here so we can take a look at it. |

okay so it happened again this time i was able to see the BSOD and I wrote down what it said
It said that there was an error and it had written: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR _EQUAL Then it had a whole bunch of stuff about if this is the first time this has happened do this, or if not do this. Some stuff about all the computer adminstrator. After all that it said ***STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X00000001, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0X00000001) I guess that was the error that was coming up. If theres something else i should have wrote down lemme know, or if theres other information you need just lemme know and i'll post it here. But this is the information I thought to be most important. |

That BSOD would indicate a driver problem. Update all your hardware drivers.

The drivers you need would be on the manufacturer's website. Check the version they have against the version numbers for your current drivers displayed in device manager. You should be looking to update motherboard chipset, graphics card and sound card.
Does it give you a file name on the BSOD? If you post your specs then we could help you locate the drivers. If you don't know your system specs download and run Belarc Advisor. Belarc will then analyse your hardware and display a report. Post the report here and we'll take a look. |

But maybe I didnt. I tried going through the device manager and updating the drivers, but It said I would need discs and I have no idea where my disc are (just moved) |

SMWDM.SYS is part of your sound card drivers.
The Belarc report doesn't tell me what sound card you have. What is the make and model of the PC? This post has been edited by ZEUS_GB: Oct 24 2005, 12:15 PM |

i built my computer so I dont have a sound card. Im just using the on-board sound card. I have a program called ventrillo that I use for WoW and my mic is connected to my monitor but that doesnt seem to be working at the moment either.
Is there a website I can go to to download updated drivers for my graphics and sound card? |

Its an intel 815GU motherbaord. I dont remeber the rest of the numbers that were on the box. I threw it away a long time ago. I do know that it is a sound card issue, because the error seems to be happening more frequently now. What can I do to rectify this error.

Can you go into device manager and check what sound card you have.
Post it here and we'll see if we can't find you some drivers. If you don't know how to get into device manager follow the instructions below: Right click my computer > click properties > click hardware > click device manager > click the + next to sound, video and game controllers and it will display your sound card.
