Computer freezes, needs reboot.

I have been experiencing random crashes usually related to being on the internet and scrolling. The mouse stops working, screen freezes, goes dark blue and stays that way until I re-boot. I just installed a new monitor to make sure it was not a failing CRT dinosaur. I have installed, removed and then installed an old mouse driver. Have updated the video driver, checked BIOS, etc. Another tech site suggested (for another user with this problem) to check the System Event viewer. The error message shows fasttx2k and the explanation is "Internal error in data structures for ." (no words between for and period)

There have also been occasions where the freeze occurs and the error message is dhcp "IP address lease denied"

Not sure if these two are related. Research of similar problems indicate it may be a drive problem. The only error messages I have seen that are drive related are Disk and ftdisk warnings - "System failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur" and "error detected on device during a paging operation". These are directed at my SATA storage drive, not the IDE OS drive.

Regarding the ability to set up RAID on this MB, since I am running my OS on an IDE drive and only using the SATA connection as a secondary storage drive, do I need the Onboard Promise Controller enabled in the BIOS?

One thing I think I need to do is clean up my registry, but have never attempted anything like that. I also need to clean up some unused games on the computer my kids have outgrown.

So, this seems a bit confusing, but this is all the information I have so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
