Computer won't Boot.... Freezes? Help Please!

OS: vista
When I go to boot up my computer, it takes forever to boot up ... then when it finally gets to the windows desktop, the computer freezes and I'm locked out. I can't even power down the laptop.. I have to take the battery out and start all over.

Please help ..... SOMEONE???
