Windows XP...administrator account missing the control panel in the start window. I keep an account just for surfing with no administrative rights, and it's still there...but not on the main account.

Why did it vanish and how do I get it back??

Thanks!

Do you mean, it's missing from Start menu?

Right click HERE choose Save link as or Save target as..., save it to your desktop. Go to your desktop and double click on showcontrolpanel.reg, allow the merge.

I still get it as a text file. I do again thank you for your help, but I cannot make it download the .reg file. I captured a save attempt.

Oh, I see what you're doing....
Your file name is:
showcontrolpanel.reg.txt
Correct?
If so, simply rename it to:
showcontrolpanel.reg
It'll work.

OK. I'm attaching the file. You have to unzip it, though.

Hello, :), sorry to butt in...

On the Save as... window do the following:

Save it to Desktop
Fill out the name to be: showcontrolpanel.reg
Under that, use the drop down menu for Save as Type: to select All Files

THEN, it should save correctly, and you can proceed with the rest of Broni's instructions..

PS- Please don't post HJT logs outside the Malware Removal forum.

1. Click once on showcontrolpanel.zip in my reply #11.
2. Save the file to your desktop.
3. Right click on the file, click Extract All.
4. File will extract to your dektop.
5. Can you see showcontrolpanel.reg file on your desktop now?
