There's another way to move files, a little old fashioned, but it may be easier and more reliable, and that is FTP. You can download a nice, free and very easy to configure FTP server here, also a client if you want to, and set it up on one of the machines. You can use the Windows FTP as client very well. I've used it to get around the headaches of networking with windows.
