I would venture out and say it’s not likely…. I don’t know how big “The Sun” is (link that was posted) but judging by some of the advertisements and top stories. I don’t know how credible it is wink.gif . I read an article from national geographic and it didn’t even mention the possible of black holes swallowing the earth, I also read that they tried to fire up the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) last year and it failed? Any ways I think something that could destroy the earth and was going to be fired up in 9 days would be all over world news….. smile.gif

I'm hoping that is sarcasm, because a bomb shelter will not protect you from a black hole. laughing.gif

Personally I feel that people fear things they know nothing about or have no control over. I've read a few articles about this from scientists and nothing was mentioned about a black hole, this black hole hypothesis seems to have been generated from the media. I try my best not to worry about things that I cannot control, the key thing is to make the best of life and enjoy it while it lasts with the people we care for. smile.gif

The earth is flat, the sun revolves around the earth, the big bang, ETc...
The scientist have to talk this up to justify all of the money spent on it.
I doubt that there is any thing to fear.
On the plus side, if the world was destroyed I would most likely be dead so I would not even know that the world no longer existed.

This reminds me of the "which one doesn't belong" type questions in school. The Big Bang hasn't been disproved like the rest of these things. In fact, according to Wikipedia, "The Big Bang is the cosmological model of the universe that is best supported by all lines of scientific evidence and observation."

Speaking of Wikipedia, it says that the only thing occurring in the Large Hadron Collider on September 10th will be an attempt to circulate a beam throughout it. The actual high-energy collisions are scheduled to begin after October 21st.

Actually Wikipedia does talk about it:
QUOTE
Concerns have been raised regarding the safety of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) on the grounds that high-energy particle collisions performed in the LHC might produce dangerous phenomena, including micro black holes, strangelets, vacuum bubbles and magnetic monopoles.[23][24][25][26]

In response to these concerns, the LHC Safety Study Group, a group of independent scientists, performed a safety analysis of the LHC and concluded in a report published in 2003 that there is "no basis for any conceivable threat".[27] In 2008, drawing from new experimental data and theoretical understanding, the LHC Safety Assessment Group (LSAG) published a report updating the 2003 safety review, in which they reaffirmed and extended its conclusions that LHC particle collisions present no danger.[28][29][30][31] The LSAG report was reviewed and endorsed by CERN’s Scientific Policy Committee (SPC),[32] a group of external scientists that advises CERN’s governing body, its Council.[28]

I was making fun of the doomsdayers, and pointing out that scientist really do not know.
Since the "big bang" theory, creation, evolution, can not be proved or disproved I do not argue about these theorys.
However, since I am not permitted to argue religion here, I will not even discuss it here. (It does not belong here) This includes evolution.
There have always (for hundreds of years) been people saying that the world will end, it has not.

I have always believed that societies need something else. Humans cannot accept the fact we live we die and repeat. There always has to be something else, and the world always needs to end. I think its just human nature to believe.

I think everyone should take a step back, and take a real good look at the world as a whole and whats truly going on in it. And when you do that, the LHC should not be on the top of the "Oh Crap" list.

Now take my two cents and savor them tongue.gif

Maybe they should've changed the name to LargeLaser Hadron ColliderCannon. That makes it sound like it's from StarWars or StarTrek. laughing.gif
