Hi...
Picked something up from the net but cant seem to isolate it. On my taskbar i have an icon that oscilates between a no entry sign and a green disabled person sign. Every few minites or so a blue dialogue box pops up in the lower right hand corner and tells me my computer is infected and there is virus activity present. It prompts me to log on to the net to various antimal software websites which i am reluctant to follow in case of a scam. Also I am get an annoying system message (glashing exclamation mark in the taskbar), saying the PC has been infected with OHPE ver.4.12_23/Spyware/else. Upon clicking it, it opens an ad of some antispy software or [bleep] popup. My webpage has changed to www.theguardservices.com and no matter what i do i cant remove that as my homepage. I have scanned my computer with Microsoft antispyware and also downloaded Panda antivirus just to make sure i dont have any virus...but nothing helped. I am getting tons of popups if i leave my computer on and also my comcast broadband stopped workin...right now im using my wireless connection. I don't know what to do! PLEASE HELP SOON! here is my hijack log.... Hello, spice_of_life.
Do not buy any products that may be advertised in any way that claim to be able to "Fix" your computer of all your spyware troubles, you are correct, it is a scam. Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm |

Hello, spice_of_life.
You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter". The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background. Please include a fresh HijackThis log, as well. |

Hello, spice_of_life.
Thank you for the kinds words, much appreciated. I would use caution when using the SmitFraudFix program, if you run it and your computer is not infected with the spyware it covers then you will lose your desktop wallpaper. You're always welcome to post here if you ever run across any spyware problems in the future as well, we'll always be here |
