Defrag not complete

Some files cannot be defragged as they may be in use.
There are also unmovable files that will not be defragged.
I suggest trying a different defrag program.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:
It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

Auslogics only took 8 seconds to defrag. Windows folder still a mess. Do you know if it is able to be defraged?

I don't believe the windows folder can be considering it is in use as long as you are in windows.
You could try to run it in safe mode but I don't think even then it will do it.
Can I ask what are you exactly trying to accomplish?
To get your hd in the best condition?
To straighten up your file system?
To clear up used space and free up as much space as possible?
Speed your system up?

Had to open folder to try to get printer to work (found out might be SP3). When I opened the folder it was a mess. As stated above, might be three screens between files. Trying to get folder consolidated.

These methods are how Microsft suggests to uninstall SP3

Method 1: Use the "Add or Remove Programs" item in Control Panel

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Copy and then paste the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
appwiz.cpl
3. Click to select the Show Updates check box.
4. Click Windows XP Service Pack 3, and then click Remove.
5. Click Finish to restart the computer after the removal process is complete.



Method 2: Use the hidden $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder

1. Click Start, click Run, type c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. When the Windows XP Service Pack 3 Removal Wizard starts, click Next.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP3.


Method 3: Use the System Restore process
Note Before you use System Restore, make sure that you have restarted the computer at least one time after you installed Windows XP SP3. By restarting the computer, you allow for any remaining servicing processes to finish.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Copy and then paste the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
%systemroot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe
3. Click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
4. Click the date on which you installed Windows XP SP3, and then click Installed Window XP Service Pack 3 in the Restore Point box.
5. Click Next, and then follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP3




If after uninstalling SP3 and everything works fine for a day then you can reinstall SP3

During procedure for my other problem, when I go into the windows folder of the c drive, it is a mess. Files are scattered everywhere. On a screen size of 1024 by 768, there are up to 3 screens between files.

Did one of the methods I posted help you find it?
If so it could be a failed install and that may be what is causing the issue.
Another way to find out if it is installed is to do the instructions below.

Push and hold the Windows key on keyboard. This is the one with the Microsft windows logo on it.
While holding Win key down click on the Pause\Break key

This should open the System properties window
On this window it will show
System info:

Microsoft Windows: type and version
Service Pack number

Registered Name
Register Number

Computer:
CPU type
Memory
I need all the above info in your next reply Except for Register name and number.

Could not find SP3. This is what system shows.

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Computer:
intel [R]
Pentium [R] 4 CPU 1.60 GHz
1.60 GHz, 1.50 GB of RAM

System:

It is installed on the system somehow.

How do you get an attachment of the whole folder? Tried to left-click copy but it would not paste to notepad. Did not try that procedure because I thought it would take up too much room here if it worked. When I tried the attachment button here, it compressed the folder and showed no spaces.

I will try a "search" and see what happens.

Checked with Microsoft Update and found SP3 to be update KB936929. Ran "search". It is no where on my computer.

Go into Add\Remove programs in control panel.
There is a little box at the top of that window that says show all updates.
Make sure it is checked and then see if the update shows up then.
