I've done numerous full scans with Symmantec Antivirus, Spyware Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware, so I don't think its a virus. The computer is 4 years old and so is the current installation of windows. I guess what I'm asking is: Is this just a matter of buying some more ram? Or is it a software issue? Currently I have 512 megs of ram in the machine right now. |

Hello you_silly_mortals...
When was the last time you ran Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter on your machine? wannabe1 |

No the computer still starts up slow. It also didn't even want to be defragged.

Were you able to complete the defrag operation? If not, try it in Safe Mode.

Oh yeah, I was able to complete the defrag just fine. And I also successfully ran disk cleanup.

Part of the problem is that you have an infection on the machine. Let's get that cleaned up and then we'll address some startups that don't need to be running.
Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions found there. That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself...then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum. Be patient, the Malware Forum is a very busy place and a two or three day wait is not unusual. DO NOT REPLY TO OR BUMP YOUR OWN LOG. If it shows a reply it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on. If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread. wannabe1 |
