After boot, there is nothing on the screen of a Dell Inspiron 1000.
I bought it used. There is a hidden drive I can not get to. I wonder if the graphics card is dead? How can or is it possible to do anything at all. dlw |

QUOTE There is a hidden drive How do you know? You didn't check the computer while buying it? Did you try Safe Mode? |

Hello,
Do you get any display when you first start the machine? This could be as simple as reseating your RAM. |

There is nothing from the moment the on button is pressed.
Can't see to go into bios, change bootup; nothing. I'm going to hook it to an external monitor to see what happens. I bought it four months ago. This just happened earlier today. |

Try reseating the RAM. The machine uses RAM for the video and if the RAM is not working there will be no video at all.
You can google how to insert RAM for your machine. |

hfcg,
Thanks for the info. I will try that. Here is what is going on. Sometimes everything works okay, monitor comes on. Sometimes it doesn't. If, when booting up, if the first screen where it says to press F2 to go into setup does not appear, I turn it off quickly. Keep doing this until it does come up. It will then proceed to boot up and be fine. I will look for the instructions on reseating the ram. |
