This'll sound incredibly patronising for which I apologise as it was not my intention but I can't find a better way to phrase it.
Games take up lots and lots of memory. When you switch out of a heavy game, everything that Windows had previously has to be reloaded from the drive as the game has pushed it all out. This doesn't happen with Windows programs because they all have the common Windows elements shared between them. The heavier the game is on the system, the more likely its not going to like being swapped out and back, in fact most games aren't designed to do this anyway. |

QUOTE CPU Speed: 799.6 MHz If this is your CPU speed you are below the minimum requirements to run Vista. While the minimum is 800 MHz, the lowest recommended is over 1 GHz. This will cause lag time for any action. I also note that you use a Of of video software. Video takes a lot of processor resources. I also see that you use utorrent, if you are streaming video it will take up a lot of resources. |

Thank you for your responses everyone.
I know now that I guess I can't help it. It's strange that this happened after I recovered the computer, but it's alright - I guess. =P I don't suppose there's a way to "upgrade" my CPU, is there? Or would "overclocking" do that, maybe? Also, I updated my Java. ^^ I feel like I've been conned.. :/ This computer costed A LOT and they told me it was the best for gaming! I bought it only a month ago! This is ridiculous.. |

Hi again,
Unfortunately sales people will say what they can to get you to purchase. A HP notebook computer is not the best for gaming, period. Not only that, but the specifications don't seem all that great, either. Upgrading on a notebook computer is a rather difficult exercise, unfortunately. It wouldn't be worth the hassle in my opinion, not for the price you would pay. So your initial problem was the lag when changing from a game back to Windows, now you're just unhappy with the gaming performance of it in general? What games are you playing? Are you using the latest drivers? I'm glad you updated your Java, though. Cheers, Troy |

Yes, there's lagging within the game and I'm certain that it can't be my internet connection. Sometimes they'll crash, too.. or even make my sound error! (The little volume control icon at the bottom right shows a smaller red icon and all noises are this annoying beep until I restart!) The most problems I've been having is with a game called Trickster Online. It worked perfectly fine before I recovered my computer (factory state). The other games I have been having trouble with are Nostale, Grand Chase, CabalOnline, Dream of Mirror Online, and Sims 2 was extremely laggy as well. Currently I only have nostale on my computer. It seems to be the only thing that will run decently. ( I'm a huge MMORPG fan! ) - Naomi |

OK What the...?!
I Recovered a SECOND time and all of the specs changed! What is going on here?! Windows: Windows NT6.0 (Build 6000) Internet Explorer: 7.0.6000.16643 Memory (RAM): 2048 MB CPU Info: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-64 CPU Speed: 2031.3 MHz Sound card: Speakers (Conexant High Definit Display Adapters: NVIDIA MCP67M | NVIDIA MCP67M | RDPDD Chained DD | RDP Encoder Mirror Driver Screen Resolution: 1440 X 900 - 32 bit Network: Network Present Network Adapters: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller | Broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n Wi-Fi Adapter CD / DVD Drives: E: PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17B COM Ports: COM3 LPT Ports: Mouse: 8 Button Wheel Mouse Present Hard Disks: C: 221.0GB | D: 11.9GB Hard Disks - Free: C: 185.8GB | D: 1.8GB USB Controllers: 4 host controllers. Why do I get a lag when switching from a game to another application? I don't see any spikes in CPU.. anything.. This is really making me sad.. Also, only the CPU changed.. but I don't see how that is possible? I am so confused.. I checked again and now it's : 1978.8 MHz When I copied it to clipboard it changed to : 799.9 MHz Do you think the cpu is messed up or something? Also, now it's lagging when switching from ANY game to another application. :/ (and it lags when switching to 'handwriting' (allows you to DRAW messages) in MSN..so it's not only game-related..) - Naomi This post has been edited by kittiez: May 21 2008, 04:34 PM

Games use a lot of resource ( PS , power for video card, CPU and Ram ) which laptops aren't good for . Also laptops get very hot compare with PC

I have been told that already.
The same laptop is acting up (as you can see in my topic a topic away) even more. All of this to fix this problem. (which no one really helped me with, haha.) Thanks anyways. |

QUOTE OK What the...?! I Recovered a SECOND time and all of the specs changed! What is going on here?! Hi kittiez!! Why your laptop's cpu speed changed is because it reduces the speed to saves energy when not use... and when you have "a rush" then you can expect a lag... I had this problem with my HP dv9625ca and i founded what we need to do! It's just a power management settings in windows!!!!! In control panel -> Power Options Under the tab "Power Schemes" you have a scrolldown list with schemes... Max Battery --> Your laptop will run at it's lower speed always!!! Portable/Laptop --> It vary on what you do.. vary from lowest to highest.. Always On --> It runs at it's maximum potential. Either the CPU or GPU. Try theses 3 settings and go back check in System properties.. You'll see that your cpu'speed is changing depending on the setting! It works for me WITHOUT a reboot!! THIS APPLIES ONLY TO LAPTOPS. I'm pretty sure this work for all recent laptop. |

Ooohhhhhh and take care with theses settings!!! I just had remember me that something happened to my laptop. Well it's my fault thought. My power schemes is always "always on" and laptop is generating a LOT of heat. I left it alone flipscreen almost closed. When I'd come back, it was freezed and I was having difficulty to touch some places. My 2nd hard disk didn't survive!!!! After a S.M.A.R.T. report on my 1st hdd, i was tolding that the highest temp was 63celsius. [bleep]!
ok for the story... in my last post i was explaining power schemes but i've only list 3 of them. That's because i don't the rest. Maybe some are duplicated. But I think there is just 3 possibles "real change setting". Sorry if i did some fault, i'm not very good in english |
