Everytime I right-click on my C: or my D: or my CD-rom drives I get a Windows Explorer error, then when I click that off I get a Dr. Watson Post Mortem Debugger error. Please help. This is driving me nuts. This happened 2 months ago and I re-did my system.

hi welcome to Geekstogo,

your log appears to be clean. However, you could have some form of malware hidden that is running.

* Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Hey thanks alot!!!! Okay here is the entire log. ;) P.S. about a week ago I changed the name of the drwtsn32.exe to drwtsn321.exe I just changed it back. Sorry :tazz: I just remembered now. Anyways I was still getting Windows Explorer errors first, then I got the the Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger Error.
If you want me to run another hijack this log I will understand. ;)

Download rkfiles.zip and unzip it to its own permanent folder.

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:

* Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
* As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
* Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
* Press the Enter key.

Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt back here and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi. Well its been about 11 hours and it happened again. I tried to right click on my c: and got a windows explorer error. When I sent that and closed the window that triggered the Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger error. It stalled my computer. I then 3 finger saluted to bring up the windows task manager. I noticed I have 2 drwtsn32.exe in my processes. One of them 2,736K and the other 11,012 K. I ended the one with the most memory and then my computer returned to normal, exept that trying to right click again on any folder results in the same errors. Help :tazz: Please. Im on my last nerve here with this one.

Go to Start > Control Panel

Double-click on "User Accounts"

Go to "Create a New Account" type the new name for the account, then click the Next button. Choose "Computer Administrator", then click "create account". Now reboot your computer and log onto the new account you just created.

Let me know if you can access everything without the Dr. Watson error message.

Okay I tried tha and it did the same thing as before. This time however i copied the files that it was going to send to MS Headquarters. I couldn't use my computer when the Dr. Watson error came up asking me to send the info. I 3 finger saluted before sending info. I ended drwtsn32.exe process, got full controll of my pc back, than searched for the two files the computer was going to send, and I have both. One is text and the other a file.

This is the file called "appcompat.txt"

lets try somthing to see if it works. you don't have any viruses that I can see, so we are going to try repairing this issue.

We are going to run System File Checker, to make sure all of your protected files are not corrupt. The scan will automatically replace any corrupt files that it finds.

Click Start
Select Run
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the program, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Sometimes the scan will prompt you for your Windows XP disc upon starting the scan. if this happens please make sure that you can view protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files.
Then rerun the scan. If this still asks you to put in your windows XP CD, and you do not have the CD (If you bought it preinstalled) post back for more tips, otherwise enter Windows CD.

Once the scan is complete:

Check your Windows Updates! After using the File Protection Service, you might need to reapply some updates.

Please reboot, and let me know if anything has changed.

Also, please rehide the protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Check" Hide protected operating system files.
right click My Computer and select Manage. Expand Event Viewer in the left pane, then click System. The entries labled Windows File Protection will be the ones to look for. Double click any one to view the info. Clicking the clipboard icon (below the arrows, upper right corner) will place a copy on the clipboard.

Please post this info here so we might better understand what is going on.
