Dr. Watson's Postmortem Debugger? [CLOSED]

Is anyone able to help? Now my computer closes Word, Money or IE sometimes at random. I may be able to use those program for 2-3 days, then it will close on me whenever I try to open them until I reboot again. It will then work for 2-3 more days.

Any suggestions? I can repost a hijack log if necessary.

I'm still having problems with the computer running ridiculously slow, also after about 2 days, programs start crashing when I try to open them and Nero tells me it can open because a virus has changed it's EXE file.

However I've scanned for virii with no return.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thank you so so much for helping! I'm having worse troubles now. Something has virtually taken over my computer. Programs crash all the time and the only way to get them to work again is to reboot. This happens all the time with MS Money, MS Word, Outlook Express. The same problem still happens with Nero where it tells me a "Virus has corrupted the executable" and that I need to reinstall.

Other new developments include both Symantec AV and AVG AV the resident shields will just stop working. A pop-up comes up telling me that real time protection is no longer working. So I tried uninstalling Symantec to reinstall it, and no success it won't let me reinstall it. So I got it back by doing a system restore.

I've run Adaware, CWShredder, Spybot, MS Antispyware, AVG and Symantec all through Safe Mode, which all came back clean. I ran TDS overnight which found about 4 things which I deleted, but I saw a message that it discovered C:\windows\system32\w?wexec.exe but the file was locked and couldn't be deleted.

Ewido is running right now while I'm here at work. I will run a new Hijack Log and post it this evening. Thank you so much for your help!

I just read the part about having two AV's running. Do you think maybe that's why the resident shields and real time protection turn off. I'll uninstall one today. Have a preference for one? Symantec AV 8.0 or the latest AVG?

It may, but it may also be something else that's preventing the real time protection. We have to see.

Yes, it's not a good idea to run two AV's at once. There is an exception though. According to Ewido's site, they say you may run it with another AV program if it's compatibile. Both Norton and AVG are compatible.

Yes, I definitely have to choose AVG over Norton/Symantec. AVG is much better, free and uses less resources than Norton.

For this file -> w?wexec.exe can you find out the exact name for me? Do a search for it (with the ? in there). Do not delete it yet (because there is a legitimate file called wowexec.exe). See if you can find it. That ? could be any character.

How about a fresh HijackThis log? I'll take a look at it now.

Ewido found c:\windows\system32\wowexec.exe as Spyware.PurityScan.ad and says it cleaned it. I don't know if that is related to what TDS found. Here my Hijack log. Thanks so much for the help!

How is everything running now?

Alright, I've performed the above. When I reboot into safe mode, the first R1 line is not there, but during regular boot up it is still there. When I searched for fir.dll it was not there nor anywhere on my harddrive.

Same type of problems with MS Money. However when I booted up this time after being in safe mode, it briefly told me my Windows Firewall was disabled. When I went into the security panel it switched from red to green and the little shield in the task bar went away.

Another quick question....

MS Money opens almost consistently, but it won't let me put in any transactions with the same error message. I googled the message and the MS support site says it's because one of the program files are corrupt. Should I uninstall/reinstall or will this malware just corrupt it again?

Also any thought on Registry cleaners? I've never run one.

Yes, uninstall MS Money. Restart your computer and reinstall it.

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Sure, I was just talking about this too with another staff here yesterday This is what we usually ask users to do:

*Please dowload: RegSeeker.
*Click on "Clean The Registry" in the left panel.
*Check all boxes (make sure the backup box in the lower left corner is selected!).
*After it runs, click "Select All" on the bottom, then right-click on any selected item in the window and select "Delete Selected Items".
*Click "Quit RegSeeker".

Now, open any of your installed programs, and make sure that everything opens ok. If so, reboot, then go back and run RegSeeker again, do the same thing again if anything is found. You may have to run RegSeeker 5 -6 times, but you want it showing none to very few items.  *Make sure to reboot between each use of the program.

That Regseeker program is pretty good at cleaning out junk entries in the registry. Give it a try, it's free.

So I did all of the above, thought things were working great. However, with the last reboot I go to open Outlook Express when I get the "program has to close" dialog box, when I hit close, another dialog box comes up with the...

Dr. Watson's Postmortem Debugger has to close. Not too sure what's happening....

I rebooted and ran another one and don't see the drwtsn32.exe lines there anymore.... Here's a new hijack log.... Any thoughts? I'm really clueless....

Also every 10 or so boots, the computer runs scandisk as it rebook and finds problems with some index entries. It says it fixes it and then boots fine.

Nothing major.

OK, so the only problem is that scandisk is finding bad sectors right? If it's doing that, try using chkdsk to fix it. Go to Start->Run and type in chkdsk /f and hit OK. Let it run and see if the problem still occurs after 10 bootups.
