OS: Windows XP

Hi, I have window xp on my computer. At first, I put my computer in "standby" mode. But when I came back to use my computer again, it rebooted itself and did a "check disk". Then I saw the check disk program was deleting couple files like this...

- Deleting index entry ime in index $I30 of file 28
- Deleting index entry SxS in index $I30 of file 28

After that the computer rebooted itself again, and once it loaded to the Window, a small window "apoint.exe" popped up and it says "failed to load dll" and I just clicked okay.

Now the problems are...

1. all the icons on my desktop looks weird

2. The "Start" button on the status bar is gone, so I cannot click "Start", then choose "Admin Tools" to do a system restore.

3. If I need to turn off the computer, I have to press the power off button because again the Start button has disappeared, also I cannot use the task manager even if I press "alt-ctl-del". After I press the power off button, the computer will only go to the "hibernate" mode.

4. Then I opened "My Computer" and browsed to "Control Panel", then browsed to "Admin Tools", all the applications in there are unable to launch. It says:

"MMC failed to initialize because it was installed incorrectly or because a portion of registry has become corrupted. Make sure the file Mmcndmgr.dll is registered by running 'regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\mmcndmgr.dll'"

5. I cannot start some applications such as "Ad-aware" or "MSN messenger" because it says the configuration is incorrect. I must re-install the program.

Fortunately, I am able to connect to the internet and use IE.

Please....someone please help me and let me know what is going on with my computer? I am really desperate to get this fix. Thanks.
