Hi.
I noticed this site when I googled this error message, so I'm hopeful that I can get help. I've followed all the steps on the You Must Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log page. I'm still receiving this message when I try to start Yahoo Messenger...

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program:C:\ProgramFiles\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe

R6025
-pure virtual function call

I have noticed another user on your site had this very same issue and like her, I've uninstalled/reinstalled, tried different versions, system restore, ect. Nothing helped :) . Thanks in advance.

Hi there I can see no evidence of malware on this log.

The error relates to Yahoo making an invalid call in Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Could you update to IE7 and see if that resolves the error

http://www.microsoft...e/getitnow.mspx

Let me know if that works

Hi Essexboy,
Thank you for taking a look and for replying, I'm happy there isn't any evidence of malware :). I updated to IE7 and I'm unfortunately getting the same error message.

Okay, I have downloaded the vb release. I'm still getting the runtime error.... at least in normal startup mode.

I got a message from my friend yesterday who said to give this a try. According to her, she too had this error message and when she tried the following, yahoo messenger worked in both selective and normal startup.

Download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008
Redistributable Package. Get the installer at:

I also recommend you install Yahoo! Messenger using "Selective Startup."
This should allow you to install Yahoo! Messenger while avoiding any
other programs that may be interfering with it.

First, delete the Yahoo! Messenger installation folder:

1. Click the "Start" menu and select "Run."
2. Type in "%ProgramFiles%\Yahoo!\" and press Enter.
3. Delete the "Messenger" folder.

Next, download the Yahoo! Messenger installer but do not run it yet.
Just leave the executable on your desktop for now. Get the installer at:

Now, use Selective Startup to install Yahoo! Messenger:

1. Click the "Start" menu and select "Run."
2. Type in "msconfig" and press Enter. This opens the System
Configuration Utility.
3. On the General tab, make the following selections in their exact
order:

a. First, select "Normal Startup."
b. Next, select "Diagnostic Startup."
c. Last, select "Selective Startup."
d. Place a checkmark on "Load System Services."
e. Click "Apply" and "Close."

4. Restart your computer.
5. Run the Yahoo! Messenger installer you downloaded in the instructions
above.

Once you've completed the reinstall of Yahoo! Messenger, restart your
computer again.

I have to say it feels good to have yahoo messenger working again, but it will only work in selective startup. In normal mode, I get the runtime error so I'm assuming there is definitely something interfering but I don't know what it is or where to look for it.

Thank you for that - it does sound like an error in the programming of Yahoo that is interfering with another programme

I will keep that information if I may..

As a thought why not just start the messenger when you need it and not on startup

Feel free to keep it.... I hope it can help someone else who may need it someday :)

You know, you're right, I might as well just do that. Thanks again for taking the time out to help me, I really appreciate it :)
