Lately, when I try to go to another web page, the page will show up briefly and then I get rerouted to the Google Search page. Sometimes, hitting the backspace button will take me to the page I want but more and more, Google has taken over and will not let me go to that page. I got so trustrated that I went into Internet Explorer and told it to "block" www.google.com, thinking that at least I would stop the takeover, but that doesn't even work. I am still getting redirected back to Google.

I have tried using several anti-spyware programs to see if they could get rid of the problem. But it is still there. There are two possibilities that could be causing this.

The first, I get a message from McAfee saying that I have a New Poly Win32 virus. I have researched this but McAfee has so solution for it. I have read numerous forum messages with the same problem but no one has been able to solve this.

The second idea, is that all of this seems to have started ever since I signed up for Googles Gmail. I don't remember Gmail putting any program or file on my computer so I am not sure how this would be the problem, but just throwing that out as a possibility seeing how it is Google that has taken over my computer now.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi rosebushr and welcome to Geeks to go.

Which spyware removal programs have you used unsuccessfully?
Have you update your anti virus program? ;)

It sounds like you have a browser hijack problem to me. First have you followed the advice Here ? If not try the advice there. I realize you may be unable to do the downloads if IE is seriously messed up, unless you are fortunate enough to have another browser already installed. If you do try using it instead of IE. If not perhaps you can download at a friends and burn it all onto a CD so you can install onto your machine. While you are at it, I would also download another browser such as Firefix or Opera. Both are great and far less susceptible to malware related problems and you coould probably access the internet with either if them while we sort out your Internet Explorer problems. ;)

I doubt Gmail caused your problem. Surely Google is not that dirty !! :tazz:

Thanks for the reply. I have tried Ad-Aware, CW-Shedder, Spysubtract and Spybot. I just downloaded Firefox and I think I will use it till I get this cleared up. It is as if Google has a mind of its own and is try to take over. I do have access to the internet by using Firefox now. Any suggestions?

One quick thing you could try since i take it Spybot search And Destroy is installed on your machine:
  • Open Spybot S&D in Advanced Mode. If it's in Advanced Mode you will see a Tools Button in Left panel. If Not then click Mode in menu bar and choose Advanced.
  • Click Tools and choose Browser Pages.
  • Try Changing all google.com entries to something else.
Prob Not that simple tho ;)

So if that doesn't do it try posting a hijack this log, state your problem or provide a link to this thread (http://www.geekstogo...ver-t25606.html). Post your log on Malware Removal Forum. Trained members will review your log there and assuredly fix your problem. :tazz:

Perhaps you should try Norton SystemWorks. It may not solve all of your current problems, but I promise it will work much better than McAfee. The costs around $65 and includes Norton Antivirus, Utilities, GoBack, CheckIt Diagnostics, and System Optimizer.
