Please help.. I am going crazy. My ex had the administrator file passworded on my kids computer. He refused to give it o me, so I ended up rebooting the whole XP system from a disk. I have a linksys internet connector, and cannot connect this computer to it. I know it can connect to a wireless, because when my ex lived here, he had a different wireless system hooked up, and this computer was on it. I am online with 3 laptops at home, but can not connect the desktop. I keep getting the error "Network Cable Unplugged". I have no idea where the network cable is, and if it needs to be plugged in to connect to the wireless. I did not disconnect any cables, so I am not sure what it is taling about. Can anyone tell me what to do to connect??
Thanks. |

you may have to re install the wireless stuff , it may have a disc or something that came with it
if you goto control panel-network and internet connections- internet connections do you see a option for wireless in there? |

no... when I go under there, I see:
Pick a task: set up or change a network connection create a network at your workplace set up or change your home or small office network or pick a control panel icon: Internet options Network connections If I click on the icon on the bottom of the screen to connect to a network, it gives me two options....Broadband, and LAN or Highspeed Internet. Under Broadband, it says "Disconnected, firewalled WAN Minniport (PPPOE)" It won't let me connect toeither one. When I ran the set up disk, I didn't unplug anything.... Any ideas?? Thanks for responding. And under LAN or Highspeed Internet, it says "Local Area Connection Network Cable Unplugged 3Com 3C920 Integrarted fast..." |

First off, go to "Start" then "Run" and type in devmgmt.msc then hit OK. Is there anything there that has a yellow exclamation point?

Hello andysgirl,
After reinstalling windows did you get all the Drivers installed. Right-click my computer > choose properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager Look under Network Adapter and tell what is listed. Do you have any entries labeled "Other Devices" If the wireless router is close to the desktop computer you will need to connect a ethernet cable from the router to the desktop. |

I do have "Other Devies". So, I need to connect the ethernet cable to the desk top? Right? What cable is that? Is it the one with the Linksys? Can you tell me what it lloks like, and where to connect it too? Sorry, but I am not very computer literate.... |
