Is there a way to run a test on all my hardware?

I am haveing some MAJOR issues with lock up's, freezeing on start up and it seems that now I am havieng bad sectors in my HD show up, so I want to run a hardware test.

Does anyone know of anything like that?

Hi there LiaoGoren!

I'm not sure of a test that does everything in one go, but there are a couple of tests that can check out different things.

To Test your Hard Drive
Download and install HD Tune. Click here for the help/introduction page.
Click here to download HD Tune.

To Test your RAM (Memory):
Click this for a guide to using Memtest

Click this to download Memtest

Run it overnight if possible

Try running those two and report back with the results. :)

hi, welcome to geekstogo, another test would be to see what happens when running a live linux CD such as puppy linux or knoppix, they should run without hitch so you can zoom in on either your harddrive(which is not touched in the test) or your windows system, thanks

ok this may have been my problem, but still not sure.

I ran the HD thing, it looked at my main drive and it was all good, I went to switch and have it look at my back up HD and it froze on me.... I think my backup may have been my problem

I spent over an hour trying to make the ram test work, but alas it wont work.
I DL the zip file, unzipped it into a file and the tried useing nero to make a data disk. It said that it made it, however it wont boot to the cd.
So I tried putting the file on a flash drive I have, and boy oh boy did that cause some MAJOR problems... it would not load and kept asking me for a boot disk?

I also discovered that I have an error message on boot up that I was never able to see before?

"secondary IDE channel no 80 conductir cable installed"

never seen that before.

So as for right now, I have the back-up HD unplugged, and it seems to work just fine? But I still wanna check it and make sure that was my problem. I also still wanna check the ram. Any ideas?

You need to burn the memtest as an image, not a data disk. Look for the option, as Nero has it.

HD Tune works quite well. A better HD test would be to use the manufactures utility. GO HERE

And yes, the memtest needs to be "burned as a image" not as a data disk.

ok this is strange, when I put the cd in, all that shows is the file saying

"There is no visible file here.

Memtest86+ is located on the bootsector of this CD.

Just boot from this CD and Memtest86+ will launch."

however when I put the cd in and try and launch it nothing happens?

i have changed the boot, it trys to boot from both cd roms first, but never does anything???

Now I am getting this responce from the boot up, I think its trying to boot but its not working...??

"NVIDIA BOOT AGENT, PXE-2.0 (BUILD 082 V1.82)
COPYRIGHT © 2001 VIDIA CORPORATION
COPYRIGHT © 1997-2001 INTEL CORPORATION

CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 0C 6E 1C 64 12 GUID:FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF
PXE-E53: NO BOOT FILENAME RECIVED

PXE-MOF: EXITING NVIDIA BOOT AGENT
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

I get this error message after it trys to boot from the cd for the mem test, I get the same thing from the USB Flash drive boot, but none of this seem to want to boot up to test the ram????

Anymore ideas folks?
