Hello,
Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes... Here are the stats of my machine: AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67 GHz 256MB RAM Running XP Pro 2002 SP 2 I have recently installed a new hard drive and my machine is crashing with a blue screen of death and messages like: STOP 0x0000008E (0xC000005, 0x804E8580, 0xF939ABA4, 0x0000000) It either crashes straight to this screen or freezes and then shows that screen on startup while it does a memory dump. It seems to happen more or less randomly but it's been happening particualy often when i try and rip and encode CDs with EAC and LAME MP3 encoder... Please can somebody point me in the right direction! |

This is usully a hardware incompatibility--you might consider a bios flash. Do you know how to do that?

Download and install Everest Home Edition
Run the programme, click + next to computer then summary Look on the right for motherboard, then BIOS type Post the details here |

Hello
my BIOS type is: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG The last BIOS updates were 27/12/01 and 02/11/00 for the video BIOS so i think i could be due for an update! Do you know if i can get a free update anywhere? (I assume i'd have to pay from Pheonix) Also my floppy drive seems to be out so do you know if i could flash the BIOS from a bootable CD? If so how would i go about making such a disk... thanks very much for all your help! |

Click the link in Everest for update to see where it goes, the best BIOS updates are automatic ones
