Hello coolcricket

Welcome to G2Go. smile.gif
My name is Kahdah and I will be helping you with your Malware problem.

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcra PLUS Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).
===========================================
Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon and select alcanshorty.bfu
  • Press Execute and let it do it’s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
  • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
  • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
========================================
Reboot back in to normal Windows and Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

In case you have used Combofix before, please delete the version you are having and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.

In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again. Because some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

=========================================
Please post back with these logs:
New Hijackthis log
Combofix log

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
===============================================================
Please download SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free version).
–Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
  • It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.

Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Program Files\Instant Messenger Names
    C:\Program Files\MediaGateway

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
    Click "Exit" to close OTMoveIt.

    **When ready to Reply on the forum, please Paste the content of the latest log which is located at the root of the drive where the OTMoveIt folder is:
    C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\********_******.log
    (where "********_******" is the "date_time")
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
============================================
After that Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report
===============================================
Please post back with these logs:
New Hijackthis log
OTMove it log

Hi Kahdah,

When I atteempted to follow your instructions with regards to OTMoveIt-this message cae up when I tried moving those two files-

"Cannot create file C:\_OTMoveIt\Moved Files\10272007\10225.log"

It also seems that the Panda's Active Scan webpage is not working, nor is the Panda website.

But everything seems to have returned to normal, Control Panel is back, can access Date and Time and the computer apeears to be running faster. I have included the latest Hijakthis log, but it seems as though the Malware may have gone??? Plus, there are no more popups, with the fake error message.

Thankyou very much for all your help with this problem Kahdah, it is much appreaciated. smile.gif

You are welcome. smile.gif

The message is ok don't worry with OT Move it for now.

Please go to Start >Control Panel >Add\Remove programs
remove this below:(if present)

Instant Messenger Names
SUPERAntiSpyware

Close the Control Panel.

After that using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore")
Delete these folders below.

C:\Program Files\Instant Messenger Names
C:\Program Files\MediaGateway

Now close Windows Explorer.
(Note if you cannot delete a folder then try to boot into safe mode to delete it)
=====================
Then try this scan.
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
      Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
==================================
Please post back with a new Hijackthis log and the Kaspersky log.

I couldn't find the two files (Instant Messenger Names + Media Gateway) in the Explore function - I am rather computer "handicapped" wacko.gif

When I tried to do the Kaspersky scanner thing, I couldn't access the website in either Firefox or Internet Explorer?

I deleted Instant Messenger Names via Hijakthis, just checked its box and it deleted it- or so it said.
Couldn't see Media Gateway --- should I have another look and try to delete via Hijakthis?

Sorry about being such an annoyance.
