You are running an out-of-date version of HijackThis; can you please download a new copy (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and replace your existing copy with the new version.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

1. If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware installed, during the installation of the new version you will be prompted to uninstall or keep the older version - be sure to uninstall the previous version.
2. After installing Ad-aware, you will be prompted to update the program and run a full scan. De-select all boxes so that it does not run.
3. Manually run "Ad-Aware SE Personal" and from the main screen Click on "Check for Updates Now".
4. Once the definitions have been updated:
5. Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan as per the following instructions:
* Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.
* Under General Settings the following boxes should all be checked off: (Checked will be indicated by a green circle with a check mark in it, Un-Checked is a red circle with an X in it. If it is greyed out, those features are only available in the retail version.)
o "Automatically save logfile"
o Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"
o Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
o Prompt to update outdated confirmation) - Change to 7 days.
* Click the "Scanning" button (On the left side).
* Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives"
* Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
* Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
* Click the "Advanced" button (On the left hand side).
* Under "Shell Integration", select "Move deleted files to Recycle Bin".
* Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
* Click on the "Defaults" button on the left.
* Type in the full url of what you want as your default homepage and searchpage e.g. http://www.google.com.
* Click the "Tweak" button (Again, on the left hand side).
* Expand "Scanning Engine" by clicking on the "+" (Plus) symbol and select the following:
o "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
o "Obtain command line of scanned processes"
o "Scan registry for all users instead of current user only"
* Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
o "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion."
o "During removal, unload explorer and IE if necessary"
o "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot."
o "Delete quarrantined objects after restoring"
* Click on "Safety Settings" and select "Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)"
* Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.
* Click on the "Scan Now" button on the left.
* Under "Select Scan Mode, be sure to select "Use Custom Scanning Options".
6. Close all programs except ad-aware.
7. Click on "Next" in the bottom right corner to start the scan.
8. Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT - Even if not prompted to.
9. After you log back in, Ad-Aware may run to finalize the scan and remove any locked files that it may of found. Allow it to finish.

Hello thatman,

Once again thanks for your continued assistance, i cant tell u how grateful i am. I have followed your instructions. I ran adaware which found and removed 21 objects. One of the two virus programs discovered something.Here are the logs as requested.....i forgot to save a logfile for housecall although it did not find anything.I will do another scan after i post this and then post the logfile just in case.

Download the CCleaner unzip the file to install.
Open the ccleaner.
Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
Now click on Run Cleaner

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Hello thatman,

Once again thanks for the assistance.Followed your instructions. The virus that panda identified has been removed.Computer is running much more smoothly now.Ran panda again and was clean. the only problem im having now is strange. When i right click on files in a certain folder i get the drwatson msg and the computer freezes.The folder is the download folder for my bittorrent client. The files are clean so im puzzled.Otherwise things are great and i cant thank u enough.
Also my bitdefender client recently identified a trojan file in my windows folder called ounist.exe.When i try to delete it with bitdefender it says 'update failed' and cant delete it.The other two online scans didnt recognise it. Anyway heres the fresh hijackthis log. Sorry to still be pestering you and thanks again!

That one folder you may have a bad cluster on you drive, check your volume for errors and defrag the drive.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot.
Copy and Paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in where upon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.

Hey thatman,
Was able to delete those files with killbox(great little app). That folder was indeed was indeed corrupted and my harddrive was extremely fragmented. Anyway de fragmented the drive last night and everything is sweet. My computer is now running completely smoothly with no problems whatsoever which makes u an absolute legend. Thanks for your patience and all your help, i cant thank u enough!!

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN

Download the Microsoft Antispyware

Download the CCleaner unzip the file to install.
Open CCleaner.
Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
Run the ccleaner

Clean out all temp files in Mozilla, Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer: Tools/ Internet Options/ General/ Temporary internet files/ Delete Files (NOTE, that this may take very long!). You can also set the memory limit to about 80 MB at the Settings.

Mozilla: Edit/ Options/ Extended/ Cache/ Clear Cache

Turn of system restore
Disabling or enabling Windows XP System Restore

Turn system restore back on and create a new restore point. Defrag your hard drive
