Hello!
I am so relieved to find this site! Thanks in advance to whomever responds. For the past couple of weeks, my computer has had a couple of new programs (Desktop Search and WebOffer), and websites have been popping up left and right. Whenever I use Google, a little window pops up asking me about whatever I'm searching for, and sometimes related websites come up, too. I'm afraid to go to my bank or credit card's websites. Norton Antivirus occasionally says I have some Trojans, but it can't fix them, and then it stops detecting them altogether. I have used everything in the 'read this first' post except for the CW Shredder. When I tried to run it, everything on my computer slowed down and I got a message about low virtual memory. Every time, I had to restart my computer. The windows website says I have every update already; my computer may be set to automatically update. It's possible that I didn't use everything properly, but I think I followed all the directions that I could find. Last week, I found Killbox and started deleting infected files, but then I couldn't connect to the internet anymore. I found the winsock fixer and now I can connect, but all the ads and stuff came back too. Here is my HJT log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 5:11:57 PM, on 4/15/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cisvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MsPMSPSv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\devldr32.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\BCMSMMSG.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSentry.exe C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dell\EUSW\Support.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\QCDriver2\LVCOMS.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\ImageStudio\LogiTray.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\Support\Alert\bin\NotifyAlert.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\AIM95\aim.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\Diagnostics\diagent.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe C:\HJT.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.tarvalonforums.net/ O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BCMSMMSG] BCMSMMSG.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [diagent] "C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\Diagnostics\diagent.exe" startup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DVDSentry] C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSentry.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NAV Agent] C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DwlClient] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dell\EUSW\Support.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LVCOMS] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\QCDriver2\LVCOMS.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechGalleryRepair] C:\Program Files\Logitech\ImageStudio\ISStart.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechImageStudioTray] C:\Program Files\Logitech\ImageStudio\LogiTray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sr1exe] "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Dell\Alert\252\updtSup3.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMon.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ffis] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop Search] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AIM] C:\Program Files\AIM95\aim.exe -cnetwait.odl O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpybotSD TeaTimer] C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe O8 - Extra context menu item: &Google Search - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmsearch.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Backward Links - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmbacklinks.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Cached Snapshot of Page - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmcache.html O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office10\EXCEL.EXE/3000 O8 - Extra context menu item: Similar Pages - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmsimilar.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Translate into English - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmtrans.html O9 - Extra button: AIM - {AC9E2541-2814-11d5-BC6D-00B0D0A1DE45} - C:\Program Files\AIM95\aim.exe O9 - Extra button: Real.com - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Shdocvw.dll O9 - Extra button: Yahoo! Hi!
I am still having problems. I won't be able to re-run all of those programs until Thursday evening (mountain time), but when I did before, CW Shredder simply would not run. I tried it with and without Internet, and right after restarting my computer. Nothing popped up, and the computer just slowed way down. Is there some way to help this? I will be back online tomorrow evening. Thanks! Marlena |

Hello Marlena and welcome to Geeks to Go.
Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix will require you to be in Safe Mode, which may not allow you to access the Internet, or my instructions! Since you’re having so many problems, let’s just remove the really obvious malware and see if that helps. Now if you are ready, let’s get fixing! Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below. O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sr1exe] "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Dell\Alert\252\updtSup3.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ffis] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop Search] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe O16 - DPF: {0FC62839-177D-4B7D-8831-FDAC34726F0A} - O18 - Filter: text/html - {950238FB-C706-4791-8674-4D429F85897E} - C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Please now reboot into safe mode. Here's how: Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap the F8 key. A menu should appear where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode. Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this. Please delete this folder (if present) using Windows Explorer: C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ Please delete this file (if present) using Windows Explorer: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Dell\Alert\252\updtSup3.exe Close Windows Explorer and Reboot normally. Now we must hide the files we revealed earlier by reversing the process, this is an important safeguard to stop important system files being deleted by accident. Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look. |

Hello!
I ran some more of the suggested spyware removal and deleted the files you mentioned. I did not set my system to show all files (I didn't see that sentence), but I found the isrvs and the updtSup.3 files anyways. I checked afterwards, and it was set to hide files, so I didn't change it. I'm sure more things have found their way in, so here's my latest hijack this log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 7:58:00 PM, on 4/21/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cisvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MsPMSPSv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\devldr32.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\BCMSMMSG.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSentry.exe C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dell\EUSW\Support.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\QCDriver2\LVCOMS.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\ImageStudio\LogiTray.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\Support\Alert\bin\NotifyAlert.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkilrr.exe C:\Program Files\AIM95\aim.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\Diagnostics\diagent.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Marlena\My Documents\Hijack This\HijackThis[1].exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.tarvalonforums.net/ O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BCMSMMSG] BCMSMMSG.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [diagent] "C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\Diagnostics\diagent.exe" startup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DVDSentry] C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSentry.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NAV Agent] C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DwlClient] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dell\EUSW\Support.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LVCOMS] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\QCDriver2\LVCOMS.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechGalleryRepair] C:\Program Files\Logitech\ImageStudio\ISStart.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechImageStudioTray] C:\Program Files\Logitech\ImageStudio\LogiTray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMon.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkilrr.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AIM] C:\Program Files\AIM95\aim.exe -cnetwait.odl O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpybotSD TeaTimer] C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe O8 - Extra context menu item: &Google Search - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmsearch.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Backward Links - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmbacklinks.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Cached Snapshot of Page - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmcache.html O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office10\EXCEL.EXE/3000 O8 - Extra context menu item: Similar Pages - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmsimilar.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Translate into English - res://C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmtrans.html O9 - Extra button: AIM - {AC9E2541-2814-11d5-BC6D-00B0D0A1DE45} - C:\Program Files\AIM95\aim.exe O9 - Extra button: Real.com - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Shdocvw.dll O9 - Extra button: Yahoo! Hello again Marlena
Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix will require you to be in Safe Mode, which may not allow you to access the Internet, or my instructions! Your HJT log is quite strange. I can’t work out whether or not you have the Vx2 infection, or have had it and there are some bits left over. Also, does the name Ricochet Networks of Denver mean anything to you? Anyway, if you are ready, let’s get fixing! To start please download the following programmes, we will run them later. Please save them to a place that you will remember, I suggest the Desktop: Killbox by Option^Explicit CCleaner Your HJT log shows that you either have a backdoor Trojan/Virus, or have had, and some of the remnants are remaining. To be on the safe side, I would recommend that you visit Trend Housecall for an online scan. Please open Spybot S & D. Before scanning with Spybot S & D, update it, download all new files, now please turn off Resident Teatimer. Do this by clicking Mode at the top of the screen, choose Advanced Mode then Tools and then Resident and unchecking Teatimer. It will hinder our attempts to clear out some files that need to be removed. Now please install and scan your system with Spybot S&D and check everything it finds coloured Red only before clicking Fix Selected Problems. If some malware is in the memory, Spybot will ask for your permission to allow it to scan on reboot; always allow it to do so. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkilrr.exe O16 - DPF: Yahoo! Canasta - O16 - DPF: {0122955E-1FB0-11D2-A238-006097FAEE8B} (CscClnt Class) - http://www.pollg.com/central/02030106/ccca...everContent.cab O16 - DPF: {0FC62839-177D-4B7D-8831-FDAC34726F0A} - O20 - Winlogon Notify: App Paths - C:\WINDOWS\system32\l06olaj31do.dll Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Please now reboot into safe mode. Here's how: Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap the F8 key. A menu should appear where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode. Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this. Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit. *Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme. *In the killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option. *In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file paths listed below ONE AT A TIME (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure!): C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkilrr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\l06olaj31do.dll Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button. Do this after each one until you have entered the LAST file path I have listed above. After that LAST file path has been entered, press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts. If you receive a message and your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually. If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again. Now we must hide the files we revealed earlier by reversing the process, this is an important safeguard to stop important system files being deleted by accident. There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, Analyze, Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds. Post back a fresh HijackThis log and also an Uninstall Log: Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools Click "Open Uninstall Manager" Click Save List (generates uninstall_list.txt) Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post. and I will take another look. |

Hello!
I won't be able to be home much this weekend, so it will take me a little while to complete everything. Ricochet is my internet provider (guess you can tell where I live!). I ran Trend Housecall yesterday, and it said I had 4 viruses that were uncleanable. I couldn't see where they were in the results box, and I couldn't copy and paste them anywhere. Thanks, and I will post a new log when I've finished with everything! |

Hi!
I had completed everything, but it seems like my computer keeps getting new stuff, or getting re-infected with old stuff. Now, after 10 minutes, I am getting the blue screen (of death) that says STOP: c000021a{Fatal System Error} the Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of f 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down. So I am typing as fast as I can, because the last 2 times I tried to post a log, it shut down on me. I am going back through both posts to make sure that the same stuff hasn't come back again. |

It looks to me like you have the Vx2 infection. Let’s see if we can eradicate it. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations: http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Please post the contents of that log in your reply. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so! Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tsvcin] C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MAPI\1033\n20050308.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nsv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Please now reboot into safe mode. Here's how: Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap the F8 key. A menu should appear where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode. Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this. Please delete this folder (if present) using Windows Explorer: C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\ Please delete this file (if present) using Windows Explorer: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MAPI\1033\n20050308.EXE Close Windows Explorer and Reboot normally. Now we must hide the files we revealed earlier by reversing the process, this is an important safeguard to stop important system files being deleted by accident. Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look. |

I couldn't find killbox in safe mode to try to delete it again. I downloaded SpySubtract and it shows 9 registry keys that are all related to iSearch, with the term DELPROT in them, but I don't see them with any other scanner. |

Hello again Marlena
Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot. From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so! |

Hello again Marlena
Its looking better, and hopefully running better, not much more to do now. We are going to use the Killbox again, but this time in normal mode. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkilrr.exe Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Please now reboot. *Open Killbox by Option^Explicit, double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme. *In the killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option. *In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file path listed below (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure!): C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkilrr.exe Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts. Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look. This post has been edited by Crustyoldbloke: Apr 27 2005, 05:24 PM |
