Howdy,

I have been trying to fight off the Vundo.h trojan for several days now to no avail. I have run MBAM several dozen times as well as SPYBOT S&D. I first noticed the trojan two days ago when out of nowhere my browser stopped loading my page, I use Mozilla FireFox and was on MySpace in the login screen at the time. I hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE to try and see if there was a program runnign that I did not recognize and saw that there were in fact 4 extra .exes running. I closed them and proceeded to run SPYBOT and MBAM complete system scans. That took about 45 minutes and each came up with over 20 infected files. I cleared out the files, disconnected my computer from the internet, restarted my computer and had SPYBOT run on start up. It came up with 3 registry keys/files for trojan.vundo.h that I had it delete. I ran MBAM and SPYBOT again after restart while the internet disconnected and they both showed up clean. Then, yesterday, my internet explorer had a pop-up in the form of a windows security alert pop up. I closed it and saw a malicious site come up that was masked as a windows security update. I closed internet explorer(it defaulted to that because it couldn't access my firefox) via CTRL+ALT+DELETE to be sure it was closed and not off screen before the download could finish, I had hoped. I rand SPYBOT and MBAM again and deleted all the files they turned up. Since then every time I run SPYBOT or MBAM they each come up with 3 registry values or files infected. I have gone in to my registries and deleted the files manually but they are just recreated almost as soon as I close the folder to delete one from a different path. I am starting to think I would be better off throwing my tower out the window and starting from scratch.

If there is any course of action that we can follow other than what I have stated please let me know, this trojan is driving me insane. Luckily I have not gotten the 100s of pop ups as others have. Here is a list of what MBAM finds as infected on EVERY scan. SPOYBOT often only finds fewoveheja in the local machine and one registry key.

Registry Keys Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{edfd21c5-ba8b-4a37-b764-0b4560dc9f1e} (Trojan.Vundo.H) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{edfd21c5-ba8b-4a37-b764-0b4560dc9f1e} (Trojan.Vundo.H) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Registry Values Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\fewoveheja (Trojan.Vundo.H) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Please help and thank you in advance for your time. If you need me to post any logs let me know which and I will do so as soon as I see the request, will be checking in often!

Here is the HiJackThis log and I have already done all of the other steps requested in the guide. I had previously run the VundoFix program and it did not remove the trojan.vundo.h at the time which was why I opened the thread here. Thank you for your help again!

I use auto-update for windows to download all of the updates while I am away and install them when I am home. I should have every update currently available. I ran the virus scan with avast!on startup and vundo is still there creating dlls and registry keys. It appears to make up to 24 different resitries and dlls while I am away at work every day thus far. That's all I know so far, thanks again!

Please print the below instructions or copy them to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the order mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if found:

Viewpoint

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [fewoveheja] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bobihezo.dll",s (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: ,
O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\bobihezo.dll
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\

1. Download combofix at http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe Save it to your Desktop before you run it.
2. Double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not click on combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

I forgot to mention that when my browser originally stopped working my desktop went away and all i could see was the background. I had to run all programs from the Windows Task manager and was able to get in to a fresh browser and remove the original infection. When I ran HJT after the uninstall of viewpoint the second and fourth lines you asked me to check were not present. Also the .dll that you asked me to delete was not present. Everything else worked flawlessly. Thank you.

Are you able to see your desktop now? If still not, go to the Task Manager and type in explorer in the Task Run box to see if it will show you the desktop now. Otherwise, carry on the below instructions using the task manager (type in Notepad to open up notepad program).

Open up your Notepad editor (Start->Run, type in notepad and click OK). Copy the text from the quotebox below into Notepad:
QUOTE
File::
c:\windows\system32\zayiyahu.dll
c:\windows\system32\jufoneva.dll
c:\windows\system32\finapeni.dll
c:\windows\system32\huhomogi.dll
c:\windows\system32\nenejiyo.dll
c:\windows\system32\rurafele.dll
Folder::
c:\documents and settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\Viewpoint
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

Save this as CFScript.txt in the same location as the ComboFix.exe tool.
Drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Follow the prompts. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not click on combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Go to the top of the page

Download the Flash Disinfector at http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/s...Disinfector.exe and save it to your desktop. Double-click on it to run it and follow the on-screen instructions. If you use a USB Flash Drive, it may be infected. Please plug it into the computer and run the disinfector tool.

Good job. Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware infections, read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If none, go to Start->Run, copy/paste in combofix /u and hit OK to remove it. You should be set to go.
