I just recieved an IBM Thinkpad from my relitive that just passed away. Its an IBM Thinkpad Transnote 2675. I boot it up and it gets to the login screen but i have to password. I tried using all the tools I usually use to reset passwords but it has no cd-rom drive or floppy. Also i tried to boot with an external USB cdrom drive but it wont boot from that drive. I was thinking about reformating the drive but im worried i would have no way of installing windows back on it.

Anyway to get past the login screen on windows 2000?

Cause i know in windows xp you can boot in safemode and just log in as Admin and change whatever you want but in 2000 it still wants a password.

Yep.. If a password was set for the Administrators account, then you are S0L ..

Our ToS doesn't allow use to help anyone hack, crack or by-pass passwords..

Sorry, but you can't prove it is and I can't prove it isn't.. So, the ToS for the site says.. No help with passwords..

Do you know of any way of booting from a USB drive? Or do you think with this THinkbad i need teh docking station or something? Or maybe an IBM drive?

Can you get into BIOS??

If you can, then there may be an option to boot from USB..

Then you could install a USB hdd or floppy.. Reformat the drive and install whatever you wanted..

Yeah i already inabled that in teh bios but it still doest boot from my external cdrom drives.

Did you set that as the first boot device??

Is USB enabled in BIOS??

I enabled usb bios support ("USB FDD Boot is supported"). But the only choices in teh boot lineup are Removable Devices, ATAPI CD-Rom Drive, HardDrive, Networkboot, and Intel Boot Agent.

So what do you have your boot set for??

BTW.. Is the cd-rom and floppy there and just not working or what??

The boot is set up as Removable Devices, ATAPI CD-Rom Drive, HardDrive, Networkboot, and Intel Boot Agent. I just have 2 USB external cdrom drives.

I just dont want to buy a new PCMCIA external cdrom drive. It should be able to boot from USB shouldnt it?
