Hi. I have a problem with IEXPLORE.EXE. There are 2 instances of it in my processes and they cannot be shut off (they appear even though I do not have any IE browsers open).

I have an uptodate version of Norton Antivirus 2003 running, I have updated and scanned with Adaware, Spybot, CWShredder, and my Windows Service Pack 1 is up to date as well.

This is my Hijack This Log File.

Dont know if you are still watching this post since it has been a few days, I registered especially because I had the same probelm... though I use Mozilla so it was suspicious iexplore was running. I deleted iexplore.exe in safe mode from the hard drive. After a restart and back into normal running lots of nonsense name programs started to try and access the net.

Pointin out the obvious Iexplore.exe has been grabbed by a virus and is being used likely because iexplore would have internet access through a firewall if you use it to browse the web. These other programs jumped up afterwards so the virus had another chance to spread itself.

I managed to delete all the executables the virus had and have had no further problems, and the reason i did it manually is because my virus scanner (the newest AVG and i also used microsofts antispyware) didnt find it. The virus seemed to lurk in the documents and settings/(this folder will depend on if you have multiple users)/local settings/temp folders. If there is more than one user on your computer the "all users" folder is likely to have the main executable the virus seemed to be running off.

Hi Infernios

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; Click here for how to do this if you're unsure.

Important Step
1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:

Windows Update Service (wuamgrd) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuamgrd.exe

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe Malware

Exit the Task Manager when finished

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items.[/b]

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCActiveMenu] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe" -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O23 - Service: Windows Update Service (wuamgrd) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuamgrd.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you don't know how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe
C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuamgrd.exe

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. ;)
