No we do not do remote assistance.. OK four things to do now which will, I hope, resolve the speed problem

First

Download and install IE8

Second

IE8 no longer requires the immunised Host file and can slow it down

Download the HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager.
  • Unzip HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager
  • Run HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
  • Click on "File Handling".
  • Click on "Restore MS Hosts File".
  • Click OK on the Confirmation box.
  • Click on "Make Read Only?"
  • Click the X to exit the program.
  • Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

Third

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP, Vista and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All Unless on Vista then uncheck the prefetch area
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

And finally

Download and run Auslogics Disc Defragmenter

On completion of all that let me know how your system is running

The error message means your host file is protected probably by one of your security tools

Could you now update your system to SP3 as that may resolve the issue, I can see no malware on your system at the moment

Those are low resolution web pages which are generally used by dial up users

What version of Firefox are you at ?

I noticed SP3 (second time I looked) I did not realised you had actually installed it :)

Well I have played and even broken FF but I could not reproduce your symptoms. I believe it is time to turn you over to the techs who know a lot more about these things than I do. Reference this thread and let them know you are free of malware. I am sorry that I am unable to resolve this problem :)
