I'm at college so I just plug into the colleges internet. It's not working, and I put the driver cd I have in, but it had nothing about internet. The internet in general is working because I am on my room mates computer right now.

If you want help, you need to provide the information needed for us to do so :)

How do you connect to the internet. If it's with a USB network adapter, is it wired or wireless abd what is the make and model? Have you loaded the driver for it?

You said you reformatted, so I'm guessing this all worked before, right? If so then it has top be a driver issue.

I loaded no driver, I load through a USB at college, not wireless, a cable. Um I put in a disc I got with my computer it says
Contents:
Antivirus software
Support software
Multimedia software
Internet software

But I found no driver related to the internet.

I guess we're not communicating well here, sorry.

The USB cable you plug into your computer connects to what? I would have to guess it connects to some kind of USB device, right, and that device is then connected to something unless it's a wireless USB network adapter.

Please tell me EXACTLY how you are connected. If you have to, take a picture with a digital camera and use the Browse and Upload buttons below the message input area to upload it and post it here. See here for explicit directions: http://www.geekstogo...st-t185663.html

It plugs into the wall from the computer. I live on campus, nothing special. It just comes out of the wall from a usb cable to my usb jack. Also, I have no digital camera. If ever I pulled it out I'd get an icon on the lower right saying network cable not detected. I don't know how to explain it better then that. It worked 5 hours ago before I reformatted it, so I assume it's a driver issue.

also when I click status it says I'm connected at 100 Mbps, but nothing is sent recieved(like 12 bytes sent and like 10000 recieved or so)

They are networking via USB, very interesting (and very foolish in my opinion). CAT5 Ethernet cable is a much more reliable and robust way to do this. Oh well, no matter.

Open a command prompt (click on Start then Run, type cmd and press Enter).
Type ipconfig /all and press Enter

Post results in a reply here please. Should look something like the following:
C:\>ipconfig /all

The IP Address looks wonkey to me, 169.254.0.0. Can you have one of your friends on a working computer run ipconfig /all and post that info here as well to compare.

Edit: If we don't spot anything after that then I'm going to ask that this thread be moved to the Networking forum if that's okay with you.

ip on his is

137.28.240.42

Also I made a minor mistake

instead of

Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.0.0
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0

it is

Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
autoconfiguration IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.0.0
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0

That doesn't help (me at least :) ). I've requested that this thread be moved to the networking forum. You should get some resolution there.

You will be notified when it gets moved.
