LG widescreen monitor help

I just purchased an LG W1952TQ 19" widescreen monitor and connected it with the included VGA cable. The monitor is set to its native resolution of 1440X900 60 htz in analog mode. The picture looks great with the VGA cable.

Since both the monitor and video card have DVI connections, I bought a DVI cable to hookup to see if there would be any improvement with the image. I disconnected the VGA cable and connected the DVI. Here's the problem. My display setting in the control panel reads 1440X900 60 htz, yet the monitor screen now shows 1280X1024 with a refresh rate of 75 htz. The screen image is larger and now does not fit the screen. I have to use the mouse on each side of the screen to scroll the entire image to see it. There are no monitor controls to allow the resolution to be changed on screen. When I disconnect the DVI cable and reattach the VGA cable, the image is again normal at 1440X900 60 htz.

I'm running an XFX 7600GT video card with the latest drivers. After searching the net, I have found instances with various monitors that experience this anomaly. So far I have not found any solutions.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

With the analog cable connected, I read the resolutions in the control panel under display for the 1440x900 60hz. With the DVI cable connected, under control panel/display the setting still reads 1440x900 hz. However, when I go to the on screen controls for the monitor, that is where it shows 1280x1024 75hz. I uninstalled the video driver, used Driver Cleaner, and reinstalled the video driver with no change.
