Hey guys,

I need some help getting rid of this bug. Not quite sure how I got it, but things are running slow with repetitive pop-ups. After the initial infection, and generating the HJT log, I shut down the PC. Now when I started up for the first time since, I have new shortcuts on my desktop (Error Cleaner, Privacy protector, and Spyware protection), and the closck in the lower right of my desktop now reads "VIRUS ALERT!". Additionally, I can not use my mouse. Lastly, I have a pop-up window titled "Windows Security Alert" which then asks me to download a spyware remover.

OH, and it won't let me open the task manager... States that the manager has been disabled by the administrator... !!!

The PC is now useless, and I am writing from another clean machine in the house...
Any help is greatly appreciated. Many Thanks!

Hello, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo... Please do the following...

Please read my post CAREFULLY before proceed with this step. Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE and save it to your Desktop.
For more information regarding this download, please visit this webpage

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Please go HERE to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: DO NOT mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Hello Again,

I think I've followed the above steps correctly, though when I went to run ComboFix, it hung up on stage 41 and I needed to shut down and restart. After the reboot, I reran ComboFix.

Posted below are the ComboFix and HJT logs.

Awaiting further instruction.

Hello Again,

I've run the Kapersky scan, and attached the results below. Overall my PC is working much better, though there are a few issues that still remain. The machine seems to be running a tad bit slow, IE browser is also a little slow, and the clock in the taskbar is in military time (24h). I can't seem to find a way to change it back to 12 hours time...

The recent scan shows some bugs hanging around, and I assume this may be the cause of my additional problems???

Awaiting instructions.

Thanks Again!

Erm.. not sure how to change that clock setting..

Please show hidden files and folders. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

First, please empty your Norton quarantine folder.. Delete everything inside below folder and leave the folder empty..

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine

I noticed that you already have:

1. Symantec Antivirus as antivirus
2. Malwarebytes' as antispyware

However, I haven't seen any third-party firewall in your logs.. Do you have any? If you don't, please install ONLY ONE of these free and excellent firewall below:
After you install the third party firewall, please disable your Windows firewall. Please go to My Computer >> Control Panel >> Windows Firewall and choose Off (not recommended) option. Then please click Apply and Ok.

Lastly, to keep your operating system up to date please visit the link below monthly
