Microsoft Confirms Stealth Updating Mucks Up XP Restore... more!

When an XP repair CD is used, it replaces all system files (including Windows Update) on your machine with older versions of those files and restores the registry," said Nate Clinton, program manager for Windows Update (WU), in a post to the Microsoft company blog dedicated to the update service. "However, the latest version of Windows Update includes 'wups2.dll' that was not originally present in Windows XP. Therefore, after the repair install of the OS, wups2.dll remains on the system, but its registry entries are missing. This mismatch causes updates to fail installation.

The existence of geeks to go is depending on Microsoft's muck ups!The day M/soft gets smart,our tech staff will get bored stiff :)

In my view it does not excuse the situation that the IT experts know, had known or don't know about this problem, simply Mr Average was not told, nothing is explained about the stealth update and those people who had repaired their system with a repair CD were at a loss, why is Microsoft leaving it once more to others to come up with a batch file repair while its own solution(of regediting) is well over the heads of Mr Average.

Anyway, I personally do not think that the journalist who brought out this situation to Mr Average was in any way making this bigger than it is, in fact I would like Microsoft to explain more about what it adds in updates in future,
