Hello all, I have a Dell XPS 1330 and I am running Vista Home.

My hard drive is 150 gigs. 10 gigs is partitioned as the D drive for recovery leaving a 140 for my C drive. Currenly the C drive is reading that there is only 15 gigs left. However I have not put a lot of data on the drive, I have maybe 8 gigs that are music/pictures.

I used WinDirStat to look what was taking up all of my hard drive space. According to the program, my C drive has only 26.9 gigs of data being used. If i look at Unknown, it shows me that 94.5 gigs of the drive is unknown.

Does anyone have any idea what is taking up all of this space? and how to get it back?

I have already done a virus check, reg clean, adware check, etc. Also, i tried to defrag, but it it doesn't seem to start when i click the button.

Any Idea's??? Thanks

You could well have a corrupted file allotment table which would confuse any attempt to see what is actually on the drive. Have you run scandisk at all? That's the first thing I would do, to correct any problems with the file system. When you ask to run scandisk it will want to do it on the next boot, just reboot and let it run until it completes. Then you should be able to run defrag.

When i try to run windows scandisk (through "run") nothing happens. If i click on the drive and try to use Error-checking, it says it can not do it when the the drive is in use and that it will do it next time the PC restarts (and of course it doesn't do it when i restart). I was able run scandisk in safe mode, but i still can't get defrag to work. When i click it it says Analyzing for about 1 sec. and then stops.

I am kinda lost on this one.
