I want to start by thanking in advance any help! This is going to be a somehow long post as I have tried lots of things.
What and how it happened: I was playing City of Heroes (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games), or CoH, last night as I usually do. After the game started I noticed a slowdown on performance and a change on graphics, as is another window has opened in the background (sometimes MS Works Calendar does this). When I Alt-TAB'ed I noticed a Command Prompt window running command after command, it was so fast I was not even able to see any text. After I exited CoH my computer seemed possesed. I saw all these spyware and adware utilities getting installed by themselves... there browser utility bars, a little taskbar icon called GetCash Network or something like that, etc. I turn my firewall and antivirus off when playing this particular game. I considered myself to know about computers, I'm not saying I'm an expert though; and I admit I screwed up. After turning Norton back on it advised me of the trojan Trojan.Alwayup located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\winupdt.exe and it was unable to remove it. One by one I ran Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE, SpyBot S&D, Microsoft's Antispyware BETA, and Norton AV. They all found different infections and they were all cleaned. With the exception of a file called winup2date.dll in my C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder. So I rebooted in SAFE MODE through the MSCONFIG tool; my computer is a Sony VAIO and for some reason using the F8 mode doesn't work. I ran everything again, removed some new things... still I get access denied to this file. So I figured the registry is firing it up when Windows starts. I went to the registry, exported it, searched for the file name... and deleted the 2 entries with the file name. Rebooted in safe mode again, voila... file is gone. I also went to the Control Panel and uninstalled as much of these tools as I found. Let it be noted that I tried to revert the computer to a previous date with System Restore and I got an error with every single date I tried. The only thing I have not been able to remove is the E2give Plug-In. When I click on Remove nothing happens. I rebooted my PC back on normal mode, and I still found some random pop-ups. I came to the internet for help and found this site. I ran Housecall and it did not find anything, I ran CWSHredder and it did not find anything. There are still some processes I do not recognize so I downloaded Hijack This and I've come here for help on how to clean up my computer once and for all. I think the Trojan is gone, but it would seem as if the adware/spyware are still able to duplicate. Every time I start my computer I get a request from weird files which names are only numbers to access all my adapters and ports through Norton Internet Security firewall, I always click on BLOCK. As of right now this is all I remember, I am very aggravated by this so I may have forgotten some details that I will post later if they come back to. Without further ado... my Hijack This log... Please follow the instructions below if you wish to remove the offending objects from your machine
The first step to clean your machine, it is highly recommended that you clean the following directory contents (but not the directory folder): * C:\Windows\Temp\ * C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested. In Windows 98*admin you can also go to IE, Tools, Internet Options, Temproary Internet Files section, Delete Files and check Off Line Content * C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\ * C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ * C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\ * Empty your "Recycle Bin". You may want to use CCleaner found here www.ccleaner.com HJT Do NOT connect to the internet for the following Close all windows Open HJT and scan If you wish to remove these entries then place checkmark(s) beside the entries below, once all entries have been checked press Fixed Check R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\system32\Searchx.htm O2 - BHO: CControl Object - {3643ABC2-21BF-46B9-B230-F247DB0C6FD6} - C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zgzsupv] c:\windows\system32\zgzsupv.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rq6irrx6] C:\Program Files\rq6irrx6\rq6irrx6.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [etbrun] C:\windows\system32\eliteirh32.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [winurs] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winurs.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [nlhcfg] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nlhcfg.exe O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [nlhcfg] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nlhcfg.exe Reboot Repost a new HJT log file Confirm these folders or files are deleted C:\WINDOWS\system32\Searchx.htm c:\windows\system32\zgzsupv.exe C:\windows\system32\eliteirh32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winurs.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\nlhcfg.exe Confirm these folders are deleted C:\Program Files\rq6irrx6\ C:\Program Files\E2G Also I would recommend Run at least two of these anit-spyware programs Microsoft WIndows Anti-spyware http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspx Ad-aware se http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ For Ad-ware se run a Full System Scan and ADS scan Spysweeper http://www.webroot.com and Run at least two of the online AV scans: http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm Panda Active Scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ House Call (Trend Micro) http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php BitDefender Free OnlineVirus Scan http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml F-Secure Free OnlineVirus Scan http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.as...IHKERRDTIPOKYJL Symantec Security Scan & Virus Detection http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/ RAV AntiVirus Online VirusScan http://us.mcafee.com/root/catalog.asp?catid=free McAfee Antivirus scan http://www.virus112.com/index.php?page=onl...an_registration Danish Antivirus scan http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml F-SecureAntivirus scan This post has been edited by nommork: Apr 23 2005, 04:42 PM |

Ok so even though it was a little difficult to remove the first couple of files and folders because they were being used at the moment I and got the 'access denied' error I was able to get rid of everything. I used a combination of restarting in Safe Mode and using HJT a couple of times.
I then ran: MS Anti Spyware Beta, AdAware SE (both scans), Spybot S&D, Housecall online AV and finally Panda ActiveScan online AV. All of them cleared at the end with the exception of Panda Activescan; it was able to remove all the viruses but found some Adware that it did not remove and the other scanners did not find. Here are my new logs to determine the new course of action... I wanted to add that know when Windows is shutting down I hear on of those sounds as if an error window had popped up, but because it's in the middle of shutting down I don't see anything.
This did not happen before... Thank you again! |

Ok, I ran an ADS scan and only a trakcing cookie came up and I deleted it. I also was not able to find any of those programs on the control panel.
Today, MS AntiSpyware showed an alert because CoolWebSearch wanted to install itself... it got removed. |
