Hey shadow17,
Welcome to GeekstoGo! I'm Ltangelic and I'll be helping you fix your computer problem. Nice to see you again, you still remember me? Take note that I'm still in training, and my posts will have to be checked by an expert. This may cause delays in between my responses, I ask for your patience. Please stick with me until we get your computer cleaned up or it will be a wasted effort on both sides. I'm looking at your log now, and I'll post back with a fix when I'm ready. Thanks for your patience. PS. If I've not been responding, and you wonder why, feel free to PM me and I'll give an explanation. LT This post has been edited by Ltangelic: Oct 9 2008, 08:16 AM |

Hey shadow17,
Your log don't look very bad. Please follow my instructions in the order they were given, and print out a copy of it as you may not have access to the forums during the fix. 1) Fix an entry with HijackThis Please re-open HijackThis and Do a System Scan Only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below. O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) Now close all windows other than HijackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis. 2) Update Adobe Reader Please uninstall the current version of Adobe you have and go here to install the latest version. 3) Run RSIT
Next reply (please include): Note: Please do NOT attach the logs and post ONE log in each post RSIT logs |

Hey shadow17,
Your logs don't look bad at all, I believe it won't be long before we can close this. 1) Update Adobe Reader Please uninstall the current version of Adobe you have and go here to install the latest version. 2) Fix entry with HijackThis Please re-open HijackThis and Do a System Scan Only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below. R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file) Now close all windows other than HijackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis. 3) Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. 4) Run Kaspersky Webscanner Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner Click on Accept You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Scan Mail Bases

Hey shadow17,
Your logs are clean! 1) Run OTCleanIt Please download OTCleanIt.
2) Reset System Restore
Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections. 1) Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at : http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. 2) To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs: Complementary programs (does not with any software that offers real time protection) * SpywareBlaster- Prevents malicious Active-X controls from installing in the first place and reducing your chances of infection of spyware. * IE-SpyAd- Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites which actually installs malicious codes onto your system. (Tutorial available here) * MVPS Hosts file- Replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future. Anti-spyware program(s) with real time protection * SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program or there will be a conflict. Anti-spyware program(s) without real time protection (real time protection only available in paid version) * Super Anti-spyware- Powerful scanner that removes any spyware before they can cause damage Firewalls You should also have a good firewall. Here are 4 free ones available for personal use (please turn OFF your Windows firewall after installing ONE of the following): * Sygate Personal Firewall * Kerio Personal Firewall * ZoneAlarm * Comodo Firewall Pro It is critical to have only ONE firewall, ONE anti virus and ONE anti-spyware resident protection running to protect your system and to keep them updated. Take note that not ALL programs offer real time protection, for a list of programs that DO offer real time protection, look here 3) Make Internet Explorer more secure
4) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from Here 5) Take a good look at the following suggestions for malware prevention by reading Tony Klein’s article 'How Did I Get Infected In The First Place' Here Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested. Please post back telling me if there are any further problems. If everything is working properly, I will ask a staff member to close this topic. |

No worries, both MBAM and Superantispyware are purely scanners in their free versions and only offer anti-spyware protection in paid versions. No harm running them both in free versions.
Your welcome and safe surfing! A staff will mark this as resolved in a short while. |
