OKAY, I TURNED MY COMPUTER OFF LAST NIGHT AND THIS MORNING I WENT TO TURN IT ON AND IT GAVE ME A BLACK SCREEN AND THE MESSAGE "NTLDR NOT FOUND, PRESS CTRL, ALT, DEL TO REBOOT" I TRIED REBOOTING IT, AND OF COURSE THAT DID NOT HELP. I FINALLY FIGURED OUT THAT I HAD TO PUT A COPY OF THE BOOT.INI, NTLDR FILE AND ONE OTHER FILE ONTO A FLOPPY DISK AND REBOOT THE COMPUTER WITH IT SET TO BOOT FROM THE A: DRIVE. I DID THIS AND THE COMPUTER DID BOOT UP, BUT HOW DO I GET THOSE THREE FILES BACK INTO THE I386 FILE? I HAVE TRIED TO COPY THE ONES OFF THE FLOPPY AND PUT THOSE INTO THE I386 FOLDER BUT MY COMPUTER STILL WILL NOT BOOT UP CORRECTLY, I GET THE SAME ERROR, SO I HAVE TO BOOT IT UP FROM THE FLOPPY AGAIN. I WENT TO THE DOS PROMPT AND TRIED A FEW THINGS BUT HAD NO LUCK THERE EITHER. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

You can use this guide to repair XP

Possibly, you will need to press the start button and keep tapping the delete key, (possibly F2) until the PC enters set up. Change the boot order to CD ROM Drive then hard drive, press F10 then press enter, load the XP CD then type Y then press enter, as it reboots, look for press any key to load from CD, press enter

You will need the XP product key to complete this

If you have audio / video files which are subject to DRM you should check with the provider for known issues with performing an XP repair install

XP Repair Install

Windows XP repair feature won't delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system

After running XP Repair you will need to install all Windows Updates

Microsoft Update
