Hi:

I am new to pc's and am having trouble hooking up a Liteon external DVD/CD writer (esau208-46) to my Acer Aspire one.

I got the unit plugged into the computer and ran the installation software, but am unable to find the unit on the computer.

I am PC illiterate and need some basic information.

Thanks

OK on a USB device you have to install drivers first then reboot in most cases. Then after reboot you connect the device.
To see if the system actually see's the drive now do the following.

Go to
Start then to My Computer
There it should show the HD, Cdrom, and any other devices like the USB cdrom you are trying to install.
If everything is done correctly when you plug in the USB drive a little window should pop up saying New Device Found

Thank you very much, that solved my problem.

One more question. I am using the new writer to install a big program on the Acer. It has asked me to shut off any virus protection programs. How do I do that?

Thanks

Usually right click on the icon at the bottom right of your screen
There should be a pause or disable option
If not then you will have to open the program and see if the option is there.
